Lesson: Acts 1:11 (Ages 3-5)
📖 Acts 1:11 – Ages 3-5
Explanation
Jesus went up to heaven in front of his friends, leaving them amazed and looking up at the sky. Then some angels appeared and asked them why they were still looking up. The angels told them that Jesus, who went up to heaven, will come back in the same way one day.
It's like when you say goodbye to your friends at the park, and they promise to come back and play with you again. Just like that, Jesus said goodbye to his friends, but he promised to come back to be with them again someday. The angels wanted to remind Jesus' friends that even though they couldn't see him anymore, he would return one day. Jesus' friends were filled with hope and excitement, knowing that they would see him again in the future.
Kid's Story
Once upon a time, there was a little squirrel named Sammy who loved to climb trees and play with his friends in the forest. One day, Sammy saw a bright light in the sky and watched as Jesus went up to heaven. The other animals were amazed and stood staring at the sky.
Sammy, curious as always, asked, "Why are we all looking up? What's so special up there?" The wise owl, who saw everything from high above, said, "Jesus went to heaven, but don't worry, He will come back one day just like He left."
Sammy thought about this as he climbed trees and played with his friends. He learned that just like Jesus promised to come back, he could trust that Jesus always keeps His promises. And from that day on, Sammy lived every day with hope in his heart, knowing that Jesus would return one day.

Life Application
This verse teaches us that Jesus will come back one day just as He promised. For children, this can be a comforting reminder that Jesus loves them and will always be with them, even when they can't see Him.
Children can apply this message in their daily lives by remembering to always trust in Jesus, pray to Him, and talk to Him like a friend. They can also share the good news about Jesus with their family and friends, showing kindness and love to others just like Jesus did. Just like the disciples were told to not keep looking up at the sky but to go and share the message of Jesus, children can be encouraged to share the love of Jesus with those around them.
Craft or Activity
One fun activity to help children understand Acts 1:11 is to create a simple craft using paper plates. Have the children decorate one paper plate to represent Jesus ascending into heaven, perhaps by drawing or pasting a picture of Jesus on a cloud. Then have them decorate another paper plate to represent Jesus coming back, with bright colors or a picture of Jesus descending from the sky. This hands-on craft can visually show the children the message of Jesus ascending to heaven and His promise to return in the same way.
Memory Verse or Rhyme
In Acts one-eleven, we're told with glee,
Jesus will return for you and me!
He went to heaven in the sky so high,
But just like that, He'll come back nigh!
Songs or Videos
One great song for kids that relates to the message of Acts 1:11 is "He's Coming Back" by Colin Buchanan. This song joyfully reminds children that Jesus will return just as He promised. Another wonderful option is the song "When He Comes Back" by Yancy, which conveys the excitement and anticipation of Jesus' return in a fun and engaging way for kids. Both of these songs can help children understand and remember the message of Acts 1:11 in a musical and memorable way.
