Lesson: 2 Corinthians 11:24 (Ages 9-11)

📖 2 Corinthians 11:24 – Ages 9-11

Explanation

In this verse, the apostle Paul is talking about the difficult times he faced because of his faith in Jesus. He says that five times he was punished by receiving lashes from the Jewish leaders.

Imagine if you were playing a game with your friends, and sometimes you lose and have to do a hard task as a consequence. Paul went through a lot of difficult times because he loved and followed Jesus. The lashes were like a punishment for him because he was teaching people about Jesus, and some did not like that.

Even though Paul went through these hard times, he never stopped loving Jesus or telling others about Him. This verse teaches us that sometimes following Jesus might be hard, but we should always stay strong in our faith and never give up. Just like Paul, we can trust in Jesus to help us through tough times and keep us strong in our beliefs.

Kid's Story

Once upon a time, there was a brave little squirrel named Sammy who loved to explore the forest. One day, he met a wise owl who told him about a verse from the Bible where someone was hurt five times by receiving lashes.

Sammy was confused and asked the owl what that meant. The owl explained that just like how the person was hurt many times but kept going, we should never give up even if things get tough. Sammy understood that sometimes life can be hard, but with courage and faith, we can overcome any challenge.

From that day on, whenever Sammy faced a difficult task, he remembered the story of the person in the Bible and found the strength to keep trying. He learned that even in tough times, God is always with us, helping us to be strong and never give up.

Prayer Prompt

Dear God, thank You for Your love and strength. Help us to be grateful and brave like Paul, even when things are hard. Amen.

Life Application

In this verse, the Apostle Paul is talking about the persecution he faced for his faith. For children, this verse can teach us about being strong and faithful even when facing difficult situations.

Children can apply this message in their own lives by remembering to stay strong and keep their faith, even when facing challenges at home, school, or with friends. It can remind them to stand up for what is right, even when it is hard, and to trust in God to help them through tough times. Just like Paul remained faithful despite his hardships, children can lean on their faith and trust in God's strength to guide them through any difficulties they may face.

Craft or Activity

Let's create a visual representation of this verse by making a "Whip Counting Bracelet." Using a strip of paper or string, children can create a bracelet with 39 beads or knots. Each bead or knot represents one lash minus one that Paul received. As they make the bracelet, you can share the story of Paul's perseverance and faith despite facing great hardships. This hands-on activity will help children understand and remember the challenging experiences Paul endured for his faith.

Memory Verse or Rhyme

In the Bible, Paul did endure,
Forty lashes minus one for sure.
Five times this punishment he bore,
But God's strength in him did soar!

Songs or Videos

One Christian song for kids that relates to the message of perseverance and endurance in the face of trials like in 2 Corinthians 11:24 is "My Lighthouse" by Rend Collective. This song talks about God being our strength and hope in difficult times, just like how Paul endured hardships for his faith.

Another great song is "Stronger" by Hillsong Kids, which emphasizes that with God's strength, we can overcome any challenge or difficulty that comes our way. This song can help kids understand that God's power is greater than any struggle we may face, just like how Paul relied on God's strength to endure his trials.
