Lesson: Galatians 5:25 (Ages 9-11)

📖 Galatians 5:25 – Ages 9-11

Explanation

Living by the Spirit means letting God guide us in our hearts and actions. It's like having a special friend inside us who helps us do what is right and good. When we choose to follow God's Spirit, we should also walk in step with the Spirit, which means living our lives in a way that shows we are following God's loving guidance.

Imagine you and a friend holding hands and walking together. When you walk in step with someone, you match their pace and direction. In the same way, when we walk in step with the Spirit, we are choosing to go where God leads us and do what He wants us to do.

Just like a dance where two partners move together in harmony, when we walk in step with the Spirit, we are moving in harmony with God's plans for us. It's like following a map that leads to happiness, kindness, and love.

So, when we live by the Spirit and walk in step with the Spirit, we are showing God and others that we trust Him and want to live the way He teaches us in the Bible. Let's remember to let God's Spirit guide us every day, just like a gentle breeze that helps us stay on the right path.

Kid's Story

Once upon a time, there was a playful puppy named Sparky who loved to chase after squirrels in the park. One day, Sparky’s owner took him on a walk and tried to teach him to walk calmly by his side. At first, Sparky kept pulling on the leash, eager to run off and explore.

But then, Sparky's owner showed him patience and love, teaching him to walk in step with him. As they walked together, Sparky learned to listen to his owner’s gentle voice and follow his lead.

Just like Sparky, we are like puppies learning to walk in step with the Spirit of God. When we listen to His voice and follow His guidance, we can experience His love and peace in our lives. So let's remember to walk in step with the Spirit, just like Sparky learned to walk in step with his owner.

Prayer Prompt

Dear God, thank you for your Spirit that helps us live our lives in a way that pleases you. Help us to follow your Spirit closely every day so that we can walk in step with you and do what is right. Amen.

Life Application

Living by the Spirit means letting God guide our thoughts, words, and actions. For a child your age, this can look like being kind and helpful to your family at home, making choices that honor God at school, and treating your friends with love and respect. Walking in step with the Spirit means following God's leading in everything you do, trusting Him to help you make good decisions and show His love to others. So, when you face a choice or a challenge, you can pray and ask the Holy Spirit to guide you in the right direction, showing love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control in all you do.

Craft or Activity

One fun activity to help children understand and remember the message of Galatians 5:25 is to create a "Fruit of the Spirit" tree. Start by discussing each fruit of the Spirit mentioned in Galatians 5:22-23 (love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control). Then, have the children draw or cut out fruit shapes and write one fruit of the Spirit on each.

Next, create a tree trunk out of construction paper or cardboard and attach it to a wall or bulletin board. Have the children attach their fruit shapes to the tree branches using tape or string. As they do this, discuss how living by the Spirit helps us grow and produce these fruits in our lives. Remind them that just like a tree needs to be rooted and grounded to bear good fruit, we need to stay connected to God through His Spirit to walk in step with Him.

This hands-on activity not only reinforces the message of Galatians 5:25 but also allows children to visually see and interact with the concept of living by the Spirit and bearing fruit in their lives.

Memory Verse or Rhyme

Walk with the Spirit every day,
Let Him guide you in every way.
Live by His Word, follow His lead,
In His love and grace, we'll succeed!
