Lesson: John 6:1 (Ages 6-8)

📖 John 6:1 – Ages 6-8

Explanation

In this verse, it tells us that Jesus went across a big lake called the Sea of Galilee. Imagine if you and your friends were on one side of a huge lake, and you decided to take a boat to go to the other side.

Jesus crossed the Sea of Galilee to show us that He goes wherever we go. Just like how you would follow your friends across a lake, Jesus is always with us, watching over us and guiding us on our journey through life. He is like a caring shepherd who never leaves his sheep alone.

So, when you feel scared, lonely, or unsure, remember that Jesus is right there with you, ready to help and protect you. He loves you so much and is always by your side, just like how He crossed the Sea of Galilee to be with those who followed Him.

Kid's Story

Once upon a time, there was a curious little turtle named Timmy who lived by the Sea of Galilee. Timmy loved exploring the shores and meeting new friends. One sunny day, Timmy heard about a kind man named Jesus who could do amazing things.

Timmy decided to meet Jesus and see for himself. He slowly swam across the Sea of Galilee, just like Jesus did. When Timmy reached the other side, he saw Jesus feeding a huge crowd with just a few loaves of bread and fish. Timmy was amazed at Jesus' love and generosity.

From that day on, Timmy learned that just like Jesus, he could share his snacks with his friends and bring joy to others. Timmy understood that even small acts of kindness can make a big difference, just like the miracle he witnessed by the Sea of Galilee.

Prayer Prompt

Dear God, thank you for always being with us, just like Jesus crossing the Sea of Galilee. Help us remember that you are always there for us, no matter where we are. Amen.

Life Application

This verse shows us that Jesus was always on the move, going to different places to share God's love. Children can apply this message by being open to new experiences and opportunities to show kindness and love to others. Just like Jesus traveled to spread love, children can be willing to try new things, help others in need, and show compassion to everyone they meet, whether it's at home, school, or with friends.

Craft or Activity

Let's create a simple diorama to help visualize the scene in John 6:1!

You can use a shallow box or a sturdy piece of cardboard as the base. Decorate it to look like the Sea of Galilee using blue paper or paint. Then, cut out a small boat shape from paper or craft foam to represent Jesus crossing the sea.

You can also add small fish stickers or drawings in the "water" to represent the sea creatures in the Sea of Galilee. Encourage the child to retell the story of Jesus crossing the sea as they play with their diorama. This hands-on activity can help them remember the message of the verse in a fun and interactive way.

Memory Verse or Rhyme

Jesus sailed across the sea one day,
To show His love in every way.
Galilee or Tiberias, it's all the same,
His miracles and teachings bring us fame!

Songs or Videos

One great Christian song for kids that relates to the message of John 6:1 is "This Little Light of Mine." This song reminds us to let our light shine for Jesus wherever we go, just like how Jesus crossed the Sea of Galilee to shine His light to the people there.

Another wonderful song is "I Will Follow Jesus" by Seeds Family Worship. This song encourages children to follow Jesus just like how the people followed Him across the Sea of Galilee. It's a fun and catchy way to reinforce the message of following Jesus wherever He leads us.
