Lesson: Acts 1:14 (Ages 6-8)
📖 Acts 1:14 – Ages 6-8
Explanation
In this verse from the book of Acts, it tells us that after Jesus went up to heaven, His followers stayed together and prayed a lot. They weren't just praying every now and then; they were always praying, like how you might always have your favorite toy with you or always have your favorite snack in your lunchbox.
And guess what? The women who loved Jesus, like Mary His mother, and even His brothers, were right there praying with them too! They were like one big family praying together, just like how your family might all gather around the dinner table to eat and talk about your day.
Prayer is talking to God, telling Him about our joys, fears, and hopes. When we pray together with others, it shows that we care for each other and that we're stronger when we support one another. Just like how when you play a game with your friends, it's more fun and easier when everyone helps each other out.
So, Acts 1:14 teaches us the importance of sticking together, praying together, and being there for one another, just like a big happy family. And when we do that, we become closer to God and to each other, spreading love and kindness like Jesus did.
Kid's Story
Once in a vibrant forest, a curious squirrel named Sammy noticed his friends were always happier when they played together. Sammy wanted to understand why, so he asked wise old Owl for advice. Owl shared a special verse from the Bible: Acts 1:14.
Sammy decided to bring his friends together for a picnic. While playing games and sharing snacks, Sammy suggested they all say a prayer together. As they held hands and closed their eyes, Sammy felt a warm sense of togetherness.
After the picnic, Sammy's friends thanked him for the fun day. They all agreed that praying together made them feel closer and happier. From that day on, Sammy and his friends made it a habit to pray together, just like the friends in the Bible verse.
Prayer Prompt
Dear God, thank you for teaching us about the power of coming together in prayer, just like Mary and Jesus' brothers did. Help us remember that when we pray together, we are stronger and closer to You. Amen.

Life Application
This Bible verse teaches us the importance of coming together in prayer with others. Just like how the early believers in Acts 1:14 prayed together, children can apply this by praying with their family before meals or bedtime. They can also pray with their friends when someone is feeling sad or needs help. By praying together, children can support and encourage each other, just like the early believers did in the Bible.
Craft or Activity
One fun activity to help children understand and remember Acts 1:14 is to create a prayer chain. Provide strips of paper and markers for the children to write down prayer requests or things they are thankful for. Then, they can link the strips of paper together to form a chain. Explain that just like the early believers were united in prayer, the chain represents how our prayers connect us to God and to one another. Encourage the children to take their prayer chains home as a reminder to pray continually and stay connected with God and others in prayer.
Memory Verse or Rhyme
In Acts 1:14, we see,
Together in prayer, united they'd be.
Mary and His brothers, all did pray,
In unity and love, every day.
So let's remember, in all we do,
Pray together, like the disciples too!

One great Christian song for kids that relates to the message of Acts 1:14 is "We All Bow Down" by Twila Paris. This song emphasizes the importance of coming together in prayer and worship. Another wonderful song is "Shout to the Lord" by Hillsong Kids, which encourages praising God together as one family in Christ.
