Lesson: John 12:19 (Ages 3-5)

📖 John 12:19 – Ages 3-5

Explanation

The Pharisees were a group of people who were not happy that many others were following and listening to Jesus. They thought they were losing importance because everyone was paying attention to Jesus instead of them.

Imagine if you were playing with your friends, and suddenly everyone wanted to play with your friend's new toy instead of yours. You might feel a little sad or left out, just like the Pharisees did.

But we learn from this Bible verse that it's essential to be happy for others and not be jealous. Jesus teaches us to love everyone and be kind even when we feel like we are not getting as much attention. Jesus is always there for us, no matter what, and He loves us very much.

Kid's Story

Once upon a time, there was a little bunny named Benny. Benny loved hopping around the meadow and making new friends. One day, Benny overheard the other bunnies saying, "Everyone wants to play with Benny, he's the best bunny in the meadow!"

Excited by the praise, Benny hopped even faster, thinking he was the most popular bunny. But soon, he noticed some bunnies feeling left out. Benny realized that being popular didn't matter as much as being kind to everyone.

Just like how the Pharisees felt jealous when people followed Jesus, Benny learned that it's essential to treat everyone with love and kindness, whether they are popular or not. From that day on, Benny made sure to include all the bunnies in his games, spreading joy and friendship in the meadow.

Prayer Prompt

Dear God, thank you for being with us always. Help us to remember that following You is the most important thing. Amen.

Life Application

This Bible verse teaches us that sometimes people may try to do things to stop God's work, but they cannot succeed because God's plans are greater. Children can apply this message in their lives by remembering that God is always in control, even when things may seem difficult or scary. They can trust in God and know that His love and power are stronger than anything else. Children can also learn to pray and ask God for help and guidance when they face challenges or when they see others trying to go against what is right. By keeping their faith in God and seeking His help, children can find peace and strength in any situation they encounter.

Craft or Activity

Let's create a craft that helps children understand the message of John 12:19. You can make a simple world map using blue and green paper. Talk to the children about how the Pharisees were worried because so many people were following Jesus. Explain that just like how people all over the world love Jesus, we can show love and kindness to everyone around us too. Let the children decorate their world maps with stickers or drawings to represent showing love to others. This hands-on activity will help them remember that Jesus is loved by people everywhere.

Memory Verse or Rhyme

When the Pharisees said with a frown,
"Everyone's following Him around!"
They couldn't stop the love and light,
Jesus shines so clear and bright!

Songs or Videos

One great Christian song for kids that relates to the message of John 12:19 is "God of This City" by Chris Tomlin. This song reminds us that God is in control of all things, even when the world seems to be going in a different direction. Another song is "My Lighthouse" by Rend Collective, which talks about how God guides us through all situations, just like how Jesus was followed by many in the Bible verse you mentioned. Both of these songs can help kids understand that God's plan is always greater than what we can see.
