Lesson: Acts 9:39 (Ages 3-5)

📖 Acts 9:39 – Ages 3-5

Explanation

In this verse, Peter is visiting a special woman named Dorcas. Dorcas was very kind and helpful to others, especially to widows who didn't have much. She made beautiful clothes for them. But one day, Dorcas got very sick and passed away.

When Peter arrived and saw all the widows crying, he felt sad too. They showed him the clothes Dorcas had made, which reminded them of her love and kindness. Peter wanted to help them feel better, so he prayed to God. And do you know what happened next? God did something amazing! He brought Dorcas back to life, just like waking up from a long sleep.

This verse teaches us that God cares about us and can do wonderful things. It also shows us the importance of being kind and helping others, just like Dorcas did. Just like Peter, we can pray to God when we are sad or need help, and He will always be there for us.

Kid's Story

Once upon a time, in a busy town, there was a kind rabbit named Rosie. Rosie loved to make beautiful scarves and blankets for her friends. One day, Rosie heard that her friend, Mrs. Squirrel, had fallen ill. Rosie hopped over to Mrs. Squirrel's house with a basket full of warm blankets she had made.

Just like Peter in the Bible story, Rosie went with a kind heart to help her friend. When she arrived, she saw all the woodland animals gathered, weeping and showing the scarves Mrs. Squirrel had made for them. Rosie felt sad but happy that she could help too.

Rosie learned that helping others with love, just like Dorcas did with her sewing, can bring comfort and joy to those in need. And from that day on, Rosie continued to make beautiful things for her friends with even more love in her heart.

Prayer Prompt

Dear God, thank you for Peter who helped the widows and for Dorcas who made clothes for them. Help us to be kind and helpful like them. Amen.

Life Application

This Bible verse teaches us about showing love and kindness to others by helping them in their time of need. Children can apply this message in their daily lives by being helpful and caring towards those around them. For example, they can help their parents with chores at home, share their toys with friends, or comfort someone who is sad. By showing love and kindness like Dorcas did, children can make a positive impact on others and spread God's love in their own unique way.

Craft or Activity

Let's create a craft activity where children can make small robes or pieces of clothing using paper or fabric scraps. As they make these items, you can explain that just like Dorcas made clothes to help others feel loved and cared for, we can also show love and kindness to others through our actions. Encourage the children to think about ways they can help and comfort others, just like Dorcas did. This hands-on activity will help them understand the message of Acts 9:39 in a tangible and memorable way.

Memory Verse or Rhyme

Peter went with them, without delay,
To where Dorcas in bed she lay.
Widows wept, their garments shown,
Dorcas' kindness to them was known.

Songs or Videos

There are many Christian songs for kids that teach about kindness and helping others, which are the themes found in Acts 9:39. One song that comes to mind is "Love One Another" by Listener Kids. This song teaches children about the importance of showing love and kindness to others, just like Dorcas did by making clothes for the widows.

Another great song is "Do Everything In Love" by Amber Sky Records. This song encourages kids to do everything with love and kindness, just as Dorcas did through her acts of service to those in need. Both of these songs help children understand the message of Acts 9:39 and inspire them to show love and compassion to others in their own lives.
