Lesson: Mark 4:15 (Ages 3-5)
📖 Mark 4:15 – Ages 3-5
Explanation
Imagine you have a special seed in your hand. This seed is like God's words, full of love and goodness. Now, let's pretend you have a friend who doesn't like this seed. When you try to share the seed with your friend, a mischievous squirrel comes and snatches it away before your friend can even think about it.
In the Bible, Jesus talked about seeds and how they grow. In this verse, Jesus is telling us that sometimes when we try to share God's love with others, there may be distractions or things that take away the message before it can grow in their hearts.
Just like the squirrel taking away the seed, sometimes when we try to share God's words with others, distractions or doubts can come and steal the message away. But remember, we can keep sharing God's love, just like planting more seeds, and trust that some will find good soil to grow and flourish.
Kid's Story
Once upon a time, there was a little squirrel named Sammy who loved to collect acorns. One day, Sammy heard about a special acorn that would grow into a beautiful tree if planted with love and care. Excited, Sammy set off to find this magical acorn.
As Sammy searched, he met a mischievous crow who told him about a shiny acorn hidden along the path. Eager to find the shiny acorn, Sammy followed the crow and forgot all about the special acorn.
But as soon as Sammy found the shiny acorn, the crow snatched it away and flew off! Sammy felt sad and realized he had been tricked. Just like the seed sown along the path in the Bible story, Sammy had let his excitement distract him, and he missed out on something truly special.
From that day on, Sammy learned to be careful and not let distractions take away what is truly important.
Prayer Prompt
Dear God, thank you for your love and your word. Help us to be like good soil, ready to listen and grow in your teachings. Protect us from distractions and help us to remember your words always. Amen.
Discussion Questions
1. Can you think of a time when you heard something good but then forgot about it quickly? How can we make sure we remember God's word?
2. How can we protect our hearts from Satan trying to take away the good things we learn about Jesus?
3. Why do you think it's important to listen carefully when we hear the Bible being read or talked about?
4. What are some ways we can keep God's word in our hearts so that it can grow and help us be more like Jesus?
5. How can we be like the good soil in the Bible story and let God's word grow in our hearts?
Life Application
Just like how seeds need good soil to grow, we need to have open hearts to understand and remember God's word. Children can apply this message by listening carefully when they learn about Jesus, praying to God to help them remember His teachings, and asking for help if they don't understand something. By doing this, they can protect God's word in their hearts from being taken away by distractions or unkind thoughts, just like the seed sown along the path.
Craft or Activity
Let's create a fun activity to help young children understand the message of Mark 4:15! You can make a simple obstacle course with different stations representing the different types of soil mentioned in the parable of the sower. At one station, you can have a path made of paper where the children can walk and scatter seeds. This station represents the seed sown along the path. You can then have a person (representing Satan) pretend to quickly pick up and remove the seeds as the children scatter them. This hands-on activity can help children visualize and remember the concept of the seeds being taken away by Satan when sown along the path.
Memory Verse or Rhyme
In our hearts, God's Word we sow,
But beware! Just so you know,
Like seeds on a path, some hearts can be,
Where Satan comes and steals the key.
Songs or Videos
One real Christian song for kids that relates to the message of Mark 4:15 is "The Devil Is a Sly Old Fox." This song teaches children about being aware of Satan's tactics and staying strong in their faith.
Another great song is "Armor of God" by Go Fish. This song helps kids understand the importance of putting on the armor of God to protect themselves from the schemes of the devil, just as mentioned in Mark 4:15.
