Lesson: 2 Corinthians 2:5 (Ages 3-5)

📖 2 Corinthians 2:5 – Ages 3-5

Explanation

In this verse, the Apostle Paul is talking about how someone made him feel sad. He wants to let the people know that the sadness caused by that person didn't just affect him, but it also made the other people sad too, even though he doesn't want to make it sound worse than it really is.

Imagine if you had a toy that you loved very much, and someone accidentally broke it. You would feel sad because your toy is broken, right? But then, your friends who also liked playing with that toy might feel sad too because now they can't play with it anymore. Just like that, when someone does something that makes us sad, it can also make others sad too.

It's important to remember that our actions can affect not just ourselves, but also the people around us. So, we should try to be kind and loving to others, so we can bring happiness instead of sorrow to everyone.

Kid's Story

Once there was a little bunny named Benny who loved to play with his friends in the forest. One day, Benny accidentally hopped too fast and knocked over his friend's tower of blocks. His friend felt sad and tears rolled down his cheeks.

Benny felt sorry and remembered the verse, "But if anyone has caused sorrow, he has caused sorrow not to me, but in some measure, not to exaggerate, to all of you." Benny quickly apologized to his friend and helped him rebuild the tower even taller than before. His friend's smile returned, and they continued playing happily.

Benny learned that when we hurt someone, it doesn't just affect them but also those around them. He promised to be more careful and kind, spreading joy instead of sorrow in the forest.

Prayer Prompt

Dear God, thank you for your love and forgiveness. Help us to remember that when someone hurts us, they also hurt others. Please help us to forgive them and show them kindness. Amen.

Life Application

This Bible verse from 2 Corinthians 2:5 teaches us about forgiveness and not holding onto grudges. For children aged 3-5, they can apply this message in their lives by learning to forgive others when they feel hurt or sad because of something someone else did.

At home, if a sibling or a friend says or does something that upsets them, they can remember this verse and try to forgive them instead of holding onto anger or sadness. They can talk to their parent or caregiver about how they feel and practice forgiveness by choosing to let go of the hurt.

In school, if a classmate does something that makes them feel sad, they can choose to forgive them and not let the situation affect their friendship. They can also ask a teacher for help if they need support in resolving the situation.

With friends, if someone says or does something that causes them sorrow, they can remember this verse and choose to forgive them. They can talk about their feelings with their friend and work together to solve any misunderstandings.

By applying the message of this verse in their everyday life, children can learn the importance of forgiveness, kindness, and letting go of negative feelings towards others.

Craft or Activity

One fun activity to help children understand this verse is to create a "Love and Forgiveness" jar. Provide the children with a clear jar and heart-shaped cutouts. Encourage them to write or draw situations where they may have felt sad or caused sadness to someone else on the hearts. Then, discuss how forgiveness can bring healing and joy. Have the children crumple up the hearts and place them in the jar to symbolize letting go of the sadness through forgiveness. This hands-on activity can help reinforce the message of forgiveness and letting go of sorrow as mentioned in 2 Corinthians 2:5.

Memory Verse or Rhyme

When someone makes us sad,
It's not just me feeling bad.
In 2 Corinthians 2:5,
We see that all of us may cry.
Remember, it's not just about me,
But also how others feel, you see.

Songs or Videos

One wonderful Christian song for kids that relates to the message of 2 Corinthians 2:5 is "Forgiveness" by Matthew West. This song talks about the power of forgiveness and letting go of sorrow caused by others. Another great song is "My Lighthouse" by Rend Collective, which reminds us that God's light shines in our darkest moments, helping us forgive and move forward with love. Both songs embody the message of forgiveness and letting go of sorrow, just as the verse in 2 Corinthians teaches us.
