Lesson: Matthew 12:23 (Ages 3-5)
📖 Matthew 12:23 – Ages 3-5
Explanation
Imagine you are watching a magic show with lots of people. The magician does something so amazing that everyone in the audience is surprised and excited. In the Bible verse, it's like when Jesus did something incredible, and all the people watching Him were amazed. They started to wonder if Jesus could be a special person called the Son of David.
The Son of David is a way to say that Jesus is a very important person, like a king from a long time ago that God promised to send to help His people. The people were so amazed by Jesus' miracles and teachings that they thought He might be the special Son of David they were waiting for.
Just like when you see something really cool and wonder how it's possible, the people in the Bible verse were amazed by Jesus and started to think He might be someone very special sent by God. It's a reminder that Jesus is indeed very special and important to us, just like the Son of David was to the people long ago.
Kid's Story
Once upon a time, in a bustling town, there was a little bunny named Benny. Benny loved hopping around and making friends with everyone he met. One day, a special visitor came to town. It was a kind and gentle bunny who did amazing things like helping others and spreading love and joy wherever he went.
All the animals in the town were amazed by this special bunny's kindness and wondered, "Could this be the Son of David?" Benny watched in awe as the special bunny touched hearts and brought smiles to everyone around.
Benny learned that being kind and loving like the special bunny was the most important thing in life. He realized that by showing love to others, he could help make the world a better place, just like the Son of David did. And from that day on, Benny made sure to spread kindness wherever he hopped.

This verse teaches us that Jesus amazed people with His teachings and miracles. Children can apply this by sharing kindness and love with others, just like Jesus did. They can amaze others by being helpful, sharing toys, or comforting a friend who is sad. By showing love and kindness, children can reflect Jesus in their everyday interactions with family, friends, and classmates.
Craft or Activity
One fun craft activity to help children understand and remember the message of Matthew 12:23 is to create a "Son of David" crown. Provide the children with pre-cut crown shapes made of paper or foam. Let them decorate their crowns with markers, stickers, glitter, and other craft materials.
While they work on their crowns, you can talk to them about how Jesus was often called the "Son of David" because he was a descendant of King David, a very important figure in the history of Israel. Encourage the children to think about why the crowds were amazed and wondered if Jesus could be the Son of David.
Once the children have finished decorating their crowns, you can have a mini parade where they wear their crowns and march around, remembering that Jesus is the special Son of David that the crowds were amazed by.
Memory Verse or Rhyme
In the crowd, they all did cheer,
"Is He the Son of David, we hear!"
Amazed by Jesus, they did see,
Son of David, He must be!
