Lesson: Mark 1:41 (Ages 9-11)

📖 Mark 1:41 – Ages 9-11

Explanation

In this verse, Mark 1:41, we see a beautiful moment where Jesus shows us His love and kindness. When it says, “Moved with compassion, Jesus reached out His hand,” it means that Jesus felt very sad for the person who needed help. It’s like when you see a friend who is hurt or upset, and you want to make them feel better.

Then, when it says, “touched him, and said, ‘I am willing. Be made clean,’” it’s showing us how powerful Jesus is. He healed the man just by touching him and speaking! It’s like when you have a scratch, and your mom or dad puts a bandage on it and says kind words to make it better.

Jesus wanted to show us that He cares for us deeply and can make us clean and whole, not just on the outside but on the inside too. He wants us to know that His love can heal us from anything that makes us feel sad or hurt. Just like how a hug from a loved one can make you feel better when you’re sad, Jesus’s love can make us feel better and whole again.

Kid's Story

Once upon a time in a village, there was a little girl named Lily. Lily loved to play with her friends and explore the fields near her house. One day, she found a lonely puppy with patches of fur missing. Lily felt sad for the puppy, just like how Jesus felt compassion for the sick man in Mark 1:41.

She gently approached the puppy, reached out her hand, and touched its head. She whispered, "I am willing to help you." Lily took the puppy home, bathed it, and fed it. As days passed, the puppy grew stronger and its fur grew back.

Lily learned that showing kindness and compassion, like Jesus did, can make a big difference in someone's life. Just like Jesus healed the sick man, Lily's love and care healed the puppy's wounds, teaching her the beautiful lesson of Mark 1:41.

Life Application

This verse teaches us the importance of showing compassion and kindness to others just like Jesus did. Children aged 9-11 can apply this message by being kind and helpful to those in need. At home, they can help their family members without being asked, show love and understanding when someone is feeling upset, and be willing to forgive others when they make mistakes. At school, they can reach out to classmates who are lonely or being bullied, stand up for what is right, and include others in their activities. With friends, they can listen when someone needs to talk, offer a helping hand when a friend is struggling, and choose to be a peacemaker instead of joining in arguments or fights. By following Jesus’ example of compassion and willingness to help others, children can make a positive difference in their own lives and the lives of those around them.

Craft or Activity

To help children understand and remember the message of Mark 1:41, you can create a tactile craft activity. Have the children make "compassion hands" by tracing their hands on colorful paper and cutting them out. On each handprint, they can write or draw ways they can show compassion to others, just like Jesus did. Encourage them to think of specific acts of kindness they can do for someone in need. This hands-on activity will reinforce the message of Jesus' compassion and willingness to help others in a tangible way.

Memory Verse or Rhyme

In Mark one forty-one, we see
Jesus showing love so beautifully.
Compassion led Him to reach out His hand,
Saying, "I am willing, be made clean," as He planned.
Remember this verse, keep it in your heart,
Jesus's love for us will never depart.

Songs or Videos

One great Christian song for kids that relates to the message of Mark 1:41 is "Jesus Loves Me" which teaches how much Jesus cares for each one of us. Another wonderful song is "He's Got the Whole World in His Hands" which reminds us of Jesus' compassion and power to heal and protect us. Both songs beautifully reflect Jesus' love and willingness to help those in need.
