Lesson: Mark 5:37 (Ages 3-5)
📖 Mark 5:37 – Ages 3-5
Explanation
In this Bible verse, Jesus chose only three special friends to go with Him. Just like when you have a favorite toy or a favorite snack, Jesus had his favorite friends.
Imagine if you were going on an adventure to a magical forest. You might only want to bring your best friends who make you feel happy and safe, right? That's how Jesus felt too!
Peter, James, and John were like Jesus' superhero team. They helped Him and kept Him company when He needed them most. Jesus wanted to spend extra special time with them because they loved Him a lot.
So, this verse reminds us that sometimes we have special friends who are always there for us, just like how Peter, James, and John were there for Jesus. And Jesus teaches us to choose our friends wisely and show love to those who are dear to us.
Kid's Story
Once upon a time, a little bunny named Benny wanted to play with all his friends at the park. But his mom said he could only bring three friends along. Benny was sad because he wanted everyone to come with him.
One day, Benny saw his favorite bird friends, Peter, James, and John, playing together happily. He realized they were having so much fun because they were able to focus on each other without any distractions.
Benny learned that sometimes it's nice to spend time with just a few special friends so they can really enjoy each other's company. Just like Jesus did when He only brought Peter, James, and John with Him.
From that day on, Benny made sure to cherish his time with his closest friends, knowing that having a few good friends is better than having many friends around.
Prayer Prompt

In this verse, Jesus chose only three of His disciples to accompany Him, showing that sometimes we need to have a smaller group of trusted friends. Children can apply this lesson by understanding that it's okay to have a few close friends they trust, rather than trying to be friends with everyone. Encourage them to choose friends who are kind, supportive, and who help them grow closer to God. This can help children build strong and meaningful friendships that will bring them joy and support in their daily lives.
Craft or Activity
One fun activity to help children understand the message of Mark 5:37 is to create a special "Inner Circle" craft. Provide children with paper and art supplies to decorate a circle cutout. Inside the circle, they can write or draw pictures of Peter, James, and John. Encourage them to talk about how Jesus had a close, trusted group of friends who were always with Him. This visual representation can help children remember that Jesus had a special group of disciples He trusted and relied on during important moments.
Memory Verse or Rhyme

Jesus went with just three of His brethren.

To witness a miracle, just for a few!
Songs or Videos
One great Christian song for kids that relates to the message of Mark 5:37 is "Jesus Loves Me" because it reminds us of Jesus' love and care for each of us individually, just as he showed by only allowing Peter, James, and John to accompany Him in that particular moment.
Another wonderful song that connects with this verse is "This Little Light of Mine," as it encourages kids to let their light shine for Jesus, even if they may sometimes feel alone or singled out, just like Peter, James, and John were chosen by Jesus to accompany Him.
