Lesson: Luke 18:36 (Ages 6-8)

📖 Luke 18:36 – Ages 6-8

Explanation

In this Bible verse, a man who couldn't see asked someone what was happening because he heard a lot of noise. Just like when you hear a commotion outside your window and you peek out to see what's going on, this man was curious and wanted to know what was going on around him.

This man was blind, so he couldn't see what was happening, but he used his other senses, like his hearing, to understand what was going on. Sometimes, we may not see or understand things clearly, but we can use our other senses and ask questions to learn more.

It's important to remember that we can always ask questions when we are curious about something, just like the blind man did. By asking questions and seeking to understand, we can learn new things and grow in knowledge and wisdom.

So, just like the blind man listened to the crowd passing by and asked what was happening, we can also use our curiosity and questions to learn more about the world around us and grow in our understanding of God's love and teachings.

Kid's Story

Once upon a time, there was a curious little squirrel named Sammy who loved to explore the forest. One sunny day, he heard a commotion in the distance. Popping his head out of his cozy tree, Sammy saw a big crowd of animals walking by.

Excited to know what was happening, Sammy scurried down the tree and asked a wise old owl perched nearby. The owl explained that the animals were going to a special feast to celebrate the changing seasons.

Sammy's eyes widened with wonder as he joined the crowd, eager to be a part of the festivities. Along the way, he made new friends, shared delicious acorns, and danced under the stars.

Through his adventure, Sammy learned that sometimes, by asking questions and being curious, we can discover joy and new experiences. Just like in the Bible verse, asking about what's happening can lead to exciting and unexpected blessings!

Prayer Prompt

Dear God, thank you for helping us listen and ask questions, just like the blind man in the Bible story. Help us to pay attention to what is happening around us and to be curious to learn more about your wonderful ways. Amen.

Discussion Questions

What do you think the blind man wanted to know when he asked what was happening?
Why do you think the blind man was curious about the crowd passing by?
How do you think the blind man felt when he heard the noise of the crowd but couldn't see what was happening?

Life Application

In Luke 18:36, a blind man heard a crowd passing by and asked what was happening. Children can apply this by being curious and asking questions when they hear or see something new or different. At home, they can ask their parents about things they don't understand. In school, they can ask their teachers for help when they are confused. With friends, they can ask about games they don't know how to play. This verse teaches children to be curious, seek understanding, and not be afraid to ask questions when they need help.

Craft or Activity

Let's create a fun "What's Happening?" listening game! Have the children sit in a circle and take turns making different sounds (like clapping, whistling, stomping, etc.), while the others close their eyes. The child making the sound will be like the crowd passing by in the verse. When the sounds stop, the other children will open their eyes and guess "What's Happening?" just like the blind man in the Bible verse. This activity can help them understand the importance of listening and asking questions, just like the blind man did.

Memory Verse or Rhyme

When Zacchaeus couldn't see,
He asked what was happening, you see.
In Luke 18:36, we learn so fine,
Asking questions helps us shine!

Songs or Videos

One great Christian song for kids that relates to the message of Luke 18:36 is "Open the Eyes of My Heart" by Paul Baloche. This song talks about asking God to open our eyes to see Him and the wonderful things He is doing around us, just like the blind man in the Bible who wanted to know what was happening. Another song is "Tell the World" by Hillsong Kids, which encourages kids to share the good news of Jesus with others, similar to how the blind man in Luke 18:36 was curious about the crowd passing by. Both of these songs can help kids understand the importance of being aware of God's work and sharing His love with others.
