Lesson: Luke 1:22 (Ages 3-5)
📖 Luke 1:22 – Ages 3-5
Explanation
When the man came out of the sanctuary, he couldn't talk to the people. They figured out he had seen something special from God. Even though he couldn't use words, he made signs to show them what he experienced. It's like when you have a dream that is so amazing you can't quite explain it to others, but you try to show them by acting it out. This man's vision was so powerful that he couldn't find the right words to describe it, so he used gestures instead. It shows us that sometimes God's messages are so wonderful and big that words alone can't capture them.
Kid's Story
Once upon a time, there was a little squirrel named Sammy who loved exploring the forest. One sunny day, Sammy found a beautiful acorn hidden in a little hole in a tree. Excited to show his friends, he hurried back to the forest clearing.
But as Sammy chattered about his discovery, he suddenly couldn't speak! His friends were confused until they noticed Sammy pointing and gesturing towards the tree.
Curious, they followed Sammy's signs and found a family of birds nesting in the tree. The mama bird had just hatched her babies, and Sammy's excitement had scared her.
Just like in the Bible verse, Sammy couldn't speak, but his friends understood his message through his actions. They learned that sometimes, words aren't needed to show love and care for others.

Life Application
This verse from Luke 1:22 teaches us that sometimes we may experience something special from God that others may not understand right away. Just like in the verse, when Zechariah couldn't speak after seeing a vision from God, we can learn to be patient and trust that God has a plan even when others may not fully understand us.
Children aged 3-5 can apply this message in their real life by remembering to be patient and trust in God's timing. They can also practice communicating in different ways, like using gestures or drawing pictures, to express themselves when words may not be enough. Encourage them to be understanding when others may not fully grasp what they are trying to say or do, just like Zechariah's friends were patient with him as he made signs to communicate with them. This verse can help children learn the importance of patience, communication, and trusting in God's plan in their everyday interactions with family, friends, and teachers.
Craft or Activity
One fun activity to help children understand and remember the message of Luke 1:22 is to create a simple "Silent Zacharias" puppet. You can use a paper bag or a sock to make the puppet. Encourage the children to decorate the puppet with markers or stickers to look like Zacharias from the Bible story.
Once the puppet is ready, have the children act out the scene where Zacharias is unable to speak but communicates with gestures. You can have them retell the story or make up their own version using the puppet. This hands-on activity will help reinforce the message of the verse in a fun and engaging way for young children.
Memory Verse or Rhyme
When Zechariah came out that day,
He couldn't speak, what could he say?
He'd seen a vision, oh so grand,
Using signs to help them understand!
Remember, when words cannot be found,
Actions speak, let love abound!
Zechariah's silence taught us all,
Sometimes we can't talk, but we can still stand tall!
Songs or Videos
A great Christian song for kids that relates to the message of Luke 1:22 is "God Will Make a Way" by Don Moen. This song reminds us that even when we face challenges or obstacles, God is with us and will make a way for us.
Another wonderful song is "Trust in the Lord" by Seeds Family Worship. This song encourages children to trust in the Lord with all their hearts and lean not on their own understanding, just like Zechariah had to trust in God's plan even when he couldn't speak.
