Lesson: John 7:10 (Ages 9-11)

📖 John 7:10 – Ages 9-11

Explanation

This Bible verse tells us about a time when Jesus’ brothers went to a special festival, but Jesus decided to go a little later and in a different way. He didn’t go openly or in a big group like His brothers did; instead, He went secretly.

Imagine if you wanted to surprise your friend at their birthday party. You might sneak into the party without anyone noticing, just like Jesus did when He went to the festival secretly.

Jesus did this because He knew that His time to do God’s work had not yet come. He wanted to be careful and follow God’s plan perfectly. Even though He could have gone openly and made a big entrance, He chose to be humble and patient.

This verse teaches us that sometimes, it’s important to be patient and wait for the right time to do things. Just like Jesus, we can trust in God’s timing and follow His plan for us.

Kid's Story

Once there was a curious squirrel named Sammy who lived in the forest. Sammy loved exploring and trying new things, but he was sometimes afraid of what others might think.

One day, Sammy overheard the other animals planning a big acorn festival. He was excited to join in, but he was also nervous about standing out. Remembering the verse from John 7:10, Sammy decided to go to the festival in his own special way.

He gathered his acorns and made a beautiful acorn necklace to wear. Instead of showing off like the other animals, Sammy quietly joined the festivities. To his surprise, the other animals admired his unique necklace and praised his creativity.

From that day on, Sammy learned that it's okay to be yourself, even if it means doing things differently. Just like Jesus went to the festival in his own way, Sammy discovered the joy of being true to himself.

Prayer Prompt

Dear God, thank you for always being with us, even when we may feel alone or unnoticed. Help us to remember that just like Jesus went to the festival quietly, you are always watching over us, guiding us, and loving us. Amen.

Discussion Questions

What do you think Jesus's brothers wanted Him to do at the festival?
Why do you think Jesus chose to go up to the festival secretly?
How do you think Jesus's actions in this verse show His wisdom and patience?
In what ways can we follow Jesus's example of making wise decisions and being patient in our own lives?

Life Application

In this verse, we see Jesus choosing to do things in God's timing and in the right way. Children can apply this by being patient and trusting that God's timing is perfect. They can also learn to be humble and not seek attention or praise for everything they do. Children can practice being obedient to their parents by doing what is asked of them without needing recognition or rewards. This verse teaches children to focus on doing what is right even if it goes unnoticed by others, knowing that God sees their actions and their hearts.

Craft or Activity

One fun activity to help children understand and remember the message of John 7:10 is to create a "Secret Savior" craft. Provide children with small cardboard or wooden shapes to represent Jesus. Have them decorate these shapes with symbols or images that remind them of Jesus. Then, encourage them to create a small "secret compartment" within the shape where they can hide a miniature scroll with the Bible verse written on it. This activity can help children understand that just like Jesus went up to the festival secretly, sometimes our faith in Him may be quiet and hidden, but still powerful and meaningful.

Memory Verse or Rhyme

Jesus went up to the festival, you see,
Not openly, but secretly.
His brothers went first, but He followed along,
In a way that was quiet, and not very strong.

Songs or Videos

One song that relates to the message of John 7:10 is "God Is Always with Me" by Yancy. This song reminds us that even when we may feel alone or unnoticed, God is always with us, just like Jesus went up to the festival secretly.

Another great song is "Jesus Is the Light" by Hillsong Kids. This song talks about how Jesus is our light in the darkness, guiding us just like how Jesus went up to the festival not openly, but secretly.
