Lesson: Luke 10:24 (Ages 9-11)
📖 Luke 10:24 – Ages 9-11
Explanation
In this verse, Jesus is saying that many important people in the past, like prophets and kings, really wanted to know and understand the things that Jesus was teaching and showing to His followers. But they didn't get the chance to see and hear these amazing things like the people who were with Jesus at that time.
Imagine if you had a secret treasure map that everyone wanted to see, but only your best friends were allowed to look at it. That's kind of what Jesus is talking about here. The prophets and kings from long ago wished they could learn from Jesus directly, but they didn't have that special opportunity.
It's like having a really cool toy that only a few kids get to play with. Those prophets and kings were important people, but they didn't have the chance to be as close to Jesus as the people who were following Him around and listening to His teachings.
So, this verse reminds us how lucky we are to have the Bible and learn all about Jesus and the wonderful things He did and said. We should feel grateful for the chance to know Him and follow His teachings, just like the people who were with Him during His time on earth.
Kid's Story
Once upon a time in a bustling village, there was a curious squirrel named Sammy. Sammy loved exploring the world around him and often wondered about the secrets of the forest.
One sunny day, Sammy overheard the wise old owl, Professor Hoot, teaching the younger animals about the importance of appreciating the blessings they had. The owl shared the verse from Luke 10:24, explaining how even great prophets and kings longed to see and hear what they did.
Sammy's eyes widened with understanding. He realized that he was so focused on finding new adventures that he had overlooked the beauty right in front of him. From then on, Sammy made a point to pause and appreciate the wonders of the forest, knowing that what he saw and heard was truly special.
And so, Sammy the squirrel learned a valuable lesson about gratitude and cherishing the present moment.

Craft or Activity
To help children understand and remember the message of Luke 10:24, you can organize a fun activity called "Prophets and Kings Exploration." Divide the children into small groups and give each group a set of pictures or cards depicting various prophets and kings from the Bible. Include well-known figures like King David, King Solomon, Moses, Elijah, and Isaiah.
Ask the children to study the pictures or cards and discuss what each prophet or king might have wanted to see and hear related to God's promises and messages. Encourage them to imagine what these biblical figures were hoping to witness during their time on earth.
After the discussion, have each group come up with a short skit or presentation where they act out a scene of their chosen prophet or king expressing their desire to witness what Jesus' disciples saw and heard. This activity will help the children engage with the verse in a creative and interactive way, fostering a deeper understanding of the message.
