Lesson: 1 Corinthians 8:5 (Ages 6-8)

📖 1 Corinthians 8:5 – Ages 6-8

Explanation

In this verse, the Apostle Paul is reminding us that some people believe in many different gods. But as Christians, we know that there is only one true God, who is our Heavenly Father.

Imagine if you have a favorite toy that you love to play with. You might call it the best toy ever! But then your friend says they have an even better toy. Just like that, people around the world might believe in different gods and think they are the greatest.

But for us, we believe in the one and only true God, who created everything and loves us very much. We know that He is the most powerful and loving God of all. So, even though others may believe in many gods, we trust in our one God who is always with us and takes care of us every day.

Kid's Story

Once upon a time, in a magical forest, there lived a young squirrel named Sammy. Sammy loved to climb trees and gather nuts every day. One sunny morning, Sammy met a wise old owl named Ollie. Ollie told Sammy about the different animals in the forest who believed in different things. Some animals believed in the sun god, while others believed in the moon goddess.

Confused, Sammy asked Ollie why there were so many gods. Ollie opened a big book and read from it, "For even if there are so-called gods, whether in heaven or on earth, as indeed there are many 'gods' and many 'lords'." Ollie explained that even though different animals believed in different gods, there is one true God who loves everyone equally.

Sammy understood that it's okay for others to believe in different things, but it's important to always remember the one true God who created all things.

Prayer Prompt

Dear God, thank you for being the one true God, above all other gods and lords. Help me remember that you are the only one I should worship and trust. Amen.

Life Application

This Bible verse reminds us that there are many things in the world that people may believe are like gods or are very important to them. As a child, you can apply this message by remembering that there is only one true God who loves you and cares for you. You can show respect to others' beliefs but always remember to stay true to your faith in God. You can also share with your friends and family about your belief in the one true God and how He is always there for you. This verse teaches us to stay strong in our faith and not be swayed by things that others may think are more important than God.

Craft or Activity

Let's create a craft to help you understand 1 Corinthians 8:5! You can make a "Gods vs. God" collage. Have the child cut out pictures of different objects, people, or symbols that represent things people might worship or consider like gods (like money, fame, or idols) and pictures representing God (like a cross, Bible, or church). Discuss how there are many things people might worship, but there is only one true God. This activity can help children remember that God is the one true God above all others.

Memory Verse or Rhyme

In heaven or on earth, many gods they claim,
But in our hearts, Jesus Christ will reign!
He's the one true God, our Savior and our Lord,
In 1 Corinthians 8:5, this truth is stored!

Songs or Videos

A great Christian song for kids that relates to the message of 1 Corinthians 8:5 is "Our God is One" by Hillsong Kids. This song reinforces the belief in the one true God, who is above all other so-called gods. Another good song is "No Other Gods" by Yancy, which also emphasizes the concept of worshiping only the one true God as mentioned in the Bible verse. Both songs are uplifting and help children understand the importance of worshiping the one true God.
