Lesson: 1 Corinthians 9:27 (Ages 3-5)

📖 1 Corinthians 9:27 – Ages 3-5

Explanation

In this verse, the apostle Paul is talking about how he takes care of his body and makes sure he does what is right. He doesn't want to do things that are wrong or hurtful because he wants to be a good example to others.

It's like when you have a favorite toy that you love to play with. You make sure to take good care of it, keep it clean, and not break it because you want it to last a long time and bring you joy.

Just like how Paul takes care of his body, we can also take care of our bodies by eating healthy foods, getting enough rest, and making good choices. By doing this, we show love and respect for ourselves and others, just like how Jesus teaches us to love one another.

Kid's Story

Once upon a time, there was a little squirrel named Sammy who loved to collect nuts. He would gather nuts all day long, but he forgot to eat them and ended up feeling very tired and weak.

One day, Sammy's friend Owl noticed that Sammy was not taking care of himself. Owl gently reminded Sammy that he needed to eat the nuts he collected to stay strong and healthy. Sammy realized his mistake and decided to discipline himself by eating the nuts he gathered.

From that day on, Sammy made sure to eat his nuts and stay healthy. He learned that taking care of himself was important so he could continue to play and have fun with his friends. Just like Sammy, we need to take care of our bodies and discipline ourselves so we can be strong and help others too.

Prayer Prompt

Life Application

This Bible verse is teaching us about self-control and discipline. Just like how we listen to our parents and teachers, we can also learn to listen to our bodies and make good choices. For example, we can choose healthy foods to eat, play outside to keep our bodies strong, and follow rules at home and school. When we practice self-control and make good choices, we are being like the person in the verse who disciplined their body. This helps us to be strong in body and spirit, and to be a good example to others around us.

Craft or Activity

Let's create a craft called "My Body is a Temple" to help children understand and remember the message of 1 Corinthians 9:27. Provide children with a cutout of a temple or a simple temple drawing. Encourage them to decorate it with markers, stickers, or glitter to represent their bodies as a temple. As they decorate, explain that just like we take care of a temple to honor God, we should also take care of our bodies by making healthy choices and obeying God's Word. Remind them that the verse encourages us to discipline our bodies to do what is right and pleasing to God. This hands-on activity will help children visualize and internalize the importance of caring for their bodies spiritually and physically.

Memory Verse or Rhyme

Let's chant together, it's so much fun,
"I discipline my body, I'm on the run!
Making it my slave, to God I will behave,
So I won't be disqualified, His love I will engrave!"

Songs or Videos

One Christian song that relates to the message of 1 Corinthians 9:27 is "I'm Gonna Work Out" by Go Fish. This fun and catchy song encourages kids to take care of their bodies and be disciplined in all they do.
