Lesson: 1 Peter 2:20 (Ages 3-5)

📖 1 Peter 2:20 – Ages 3-5

Explanation

In this Bible verse, Peter is telling us that it's not special or good if we get in trouble for doing something wrong. But if we get in trouble for doing something good and we stay strong and brave, that's really great in God's eyes.

Imagine if you have a big brother or sister who tells you not to eat cookies before dinner. If you listen and obey, that's good! But if you sneak a cookie and get in trouble, that's not good. It's like that with God too.

So, always try to do what is right and good, even if it's hard. God sees when we do good things and He is happy when we are kind and brave, even when it's tough.

Kid's Story

Once upon a time, there was a little squirrel named Sammy who loved to share his acorns with others. One day, a mischievous bird stole some of Sammy's acorns and hid them in his nest. Instead of getting angry, Sammy decided to forgive the bird and share even more acorns with him.

Soon, the other animals noticed Sammy's kindness and started taking advantage of him. They would ask for more and more acorns, but Sammy kept giving with a smile.

One day, the wise old owl saw all this and praised Sammy for his endurance in doing good, even when others were unkind. Sammy felt proud that he was doing the right thing, and the other animals learned from his example.

Just like Sammy, when we do good and endure even when it's hard, God sees it and is pleased with us.

Prayer Prompt

Dear God,

Thank you for loving us and always being with us. Help us to remember that doing good is important, even when it is hard. We want to make you proud by choosing to do what is right. Amen.

Discussion Questions

1. Why is it important to do what is good, even if it is hard?
2. How do you think God feels when we choose to do what is good, even when it is difficult?
3. Can you think of a time when you did something good, even though it was tough? How did it make you feel?
4. What do you think "commendable before God" means in this Bible verse?

Life Application

When you do something wrong, like hitting your sibling or taking a toy without asking, and you get in trouble for it, that's not good. But if you choose to do the right thing, like sharing your toys or helping a friend in need, even if it's hard, that's pleasing to God. So, when you face a situation where you can do something good or something wrong, remember to choose what is good, even if it's tough. That way, you're doing what pleases God and showing others how to do the right thing too.

Craft or Activity

Let's create a "Good Deeds Jar"! Decorate a jar with stickers and markers. Each time the child does something kind or helpful, write it on a small piece of paper and put it in the jar. This activity will help them understand that doing good deeds is commendable before God, even if it's challenging.

Memory Verse or Rhyme

When we do good, God's love will show,
Suffering for right, to Him we grow!
Enduring trials, with hearts so strong,
God's love for us, forever long!

This verse from 1 Peter two-twenty,
Teaches us to be kind and plenty!
Remember, dear child, always strive,
To do what's good, in God we thrive!

Songs or Videos

One great Christian song for kids that relates to the message of 1 Peter 2:20 is "I Will Trust in You" by Lauren Daigle. This song encourages us to trust in God even when we face difficult situations for doing what is right.

Another wonderful song is "My Lighthouse" by Rend Collective. This song reminds us that God is our guiding light in tough times, and it is commendable before God when we endure suffering for doing good.
