Lesson: 2 Peter 3:7 (Ages 6-8)

📖 2 Peter 3:7 – Ages 6-8

Explanation

This Bible verse is saying that one day, God will judge the world. Just like how a teacher keeps a surprise test for the end of the school year, God is keeping a big day called Judgment Day for everyone.

Imagine Judgment Day like a giant scale, where God will weigh all the things we have done in our lives. The things we do that make God happy are like putting light feathers on one side of the scale, and the things that make God sad are like heavy rocks on the other side.

On Judgment Day, God will look at our hearts and see if we have been kind, loving, and faithful. Those who have been good and followed God's ways will be happy in heaven with Him. But those who have been mean or ignore God will be sad.

So, let's always try to be kind and loving, just like Jesus taught us, so we can be ready for that special day!

Kid's Story

Once upon a time, there was a curious squirrel named Sammy who loved exploring the forest. One day, Sammy overheard the wise old owl, Mr. Hoot, talking about a big fire that would come one day to the forest. Sammy was scared and asked Mr. Hoot what it meant.

Mr. Hoot explained that just like how the forest needed a good fire sometimes to grow stronger, the world would one day be judged by fire. But only those who didn't believe in God would be destroyed.

Sammy was worried about the fire until Mr. Hoot reminded him that God loves us and wants us to believe in Him so we can be saved. Sammy learned that just like the forest needs the fire to grow, we need to trust in God to grow in His love and protection.

Prayer Prompt

Dear God, thank you for your word that reminds us that you are in control of everything, including the heavens and the earth. Help us to remember that you have a plan for everything and that we should always choose to follow you. Amen.

Discussion Questions

1. What do you think it means that the heavens and earth are being reserved for fire?
2. Why do you think it's important to remember that there will be a day of judgment for everyone?
3. How can we make sure we are not counted among the ungodly when that day comes?
4. Can you think of ways we can show God's love and kindness to others while we wait for that day?
5. How does knowing about the day of judgment make you feel, and why?

Life Application

This Bible verse from 2 Peter 3:7 teaches us about the importance of being prepared for the future. Just like how the present heavens and earth are being reserved for fire, we should remember that our actions and choices have consequences.

Children can apply this message in their daily lives by being mindful of how they treat others and the world around them. They can show kindness and respect to their family members, friends, and teachers, knowing that their words and actions can have a big impact.

They can also think about how they can take care of the environment by not wasting resources and being good stewards of God's creation. By being responsible and making good choices, children can live in a way that honors God and prepares them for the future.

Craft or Activity

Let's create a simple craft to help children understand the message of 2 Peter 3:7. You can use a blue piece of construction paper to represent the present heavens and earth. Then, cut out flames from red, yellow, and orange construction paper to symbolize the fire reserved for the day of judgment.

Discuss with the children how just as the flames are kept separate from the blue paper, the fire is being reserved for a specific time. Encourage them to write the Bible verse on the blue paper or on the flames to reinforce the message. This hands-on activity can visually represent the message of God's judgment in a way that is engaging and memorable for young children.

Memory Verse or Rhyme

When God's word is spoken, listen to the rhyme,
The heavens and earth reserved for fire, it's a sign.
On judgment day, the ungodly will see,
God's power and glory for all eternity!

Songs or Videos

One Christian song that kids might enjoy that relates to the message of 2 Peter 3:7 is "God's Not Dead" by the Newsboys. This song reminds us that God is alive and in control of all things, including the judgment of the ungodly.

Another great song for kids is "My Lighthouse" by Rend Collective. This song talks about how God is our lighthouse, guiding us through the storms of life and ultimately bringing judgment to those who do not follow Him.
