Lesson: Acts 13:19 (Ages 6-8)

📖 Acts 13:19 – Ages 6-8

Explanation

In Acts 13:19, it talks about how God helped His people by giving them a special land called Canaan. Before they could live there, God helped them defeat seven other groups of people who were living in Canaan. This was like clearing the way for His people to have a safe and happy place to live.

Imagine if you had a beautiful garden that you wanted to play in, but there were lots of weeds taking over. Before you could enjoy your garden, you would need to pull out all the weeds to make it lovely and fun again. That's what God did for His people but with lands instead of a garden.

God loves us so much that He helps us when we face big challenges, just like how He helped His people in the Bible. He promises to be with us and guide us through difficult times, just like He guided His people to their new home in Canaan.

Kid's Story

Once upon a time, there was a brave little squirrel named Sammy who lived in a beautiful forest. Sammy loved to explore and find tasty acorns to eat.

One day, Sammy discovered a magical map hidden under a pile of leaves. The map showed seven different spots in the forest where delicious acorns were waiting to be found. Excited, Sammy set off on an adventure to find them all.

As Sammy journeyed through the forest, he faced many challenges just like the Israelites did when they conquered the land of Canaan. But Sammy didn't give up. He persevered with courage and determination, just like God's people did when they received their inheritance.

In the end, Sammy found all seven spots and enjoyed the tastiest acorns he had ever eaten. He learned that with faith and perseverance, great rewards await us, just like God's people received their promised land.

Prayer Prompt

Dear God, thank you for giving us this land as our special place, just like you did for your people long ago. Help us to remember that you are always with us and that you give us good things because you love us. Amen.

Discussion Questions

Why do you think God destroyed the seven nations in Canaan before giving the land to His people?
How do you think the people felt when they received the land of Canaan as an inheritance from God?
What do you think we can learn from this verse about God's faithfulness and promises to His people?
How can we show gratitude to God for the blessings and inheritance He gives us?

Life Application

God promised to give His people a special land, and He kept His promise by giving them the land of Canaan. Children can learn from this that God is faithful to His promises. They can apply this by being faithful in keeping their own promises to others, whether it's helping with chores at home, completing schoolwork on time, or being a good friend by keeping their word. Just like God fulfilled His promise to His people, children can learn to be trustworthy and dependable in their own lives.

Craft or Activity

Let's create a map of Canaan together! You can draw or print a map of the ancient land of Canaan, and then mark it with seven different stickers or drawings representing the seven nations mentioned in Acts 13:19. Discuss each nation as you place the stickers. Then, on another sheet of paper, write or draw how God gave the land to His people as an inheritance. This hands-on activity will help you visualize and remember the message of the verse.

Memory Verse or Rhyme

God's people, in Canaan they did dwell,
Seven nations they did expel.
Inheritance from God above,
Promised land, filled with love!

Songs or Videos

A great song that relates to the message of Acts 13:19 is "Joshua Fit The Battle of Jericho." This song tells the story of how God helped the Israelites conquer the city of Jericho and inherit the promised land. Another song is "This Is My Father's World," which celebrates God as the creator and owner of all things, including the land He gave to His people. Both songs can help kids understand and remember the message of Acts 13:19 from the Bible.
