Lesson: Acts 28:17 (Ages 6-8)

📖 Acts 28:17 – Ages 6-8

Explanation

In this Bible verse, a man named Paul is talking to some important Jewish leaders. He tells them that even though he didn't do anything wrong, he was taken as a prisoner to Rome.

Imagine if you were playing with your friends and someone accused you of something you didn't do. That's like what happened to Paul. He was blamed for something he didn't do, and he had to talk to these leaders to explain what really happened.

Paul wanted the leaders to know that he was innocent and that he followed the teachings of God just like them. Sometimes, even when we do our best to be good, people may not understand us or believe us. But God knows the truth in our hearts, just like he knew Paul's heart was good.

So, this verse teaches us that it's important to stay true to what we believe in, even when others may misunderstand us. God sees our hearts and knows when we are trying to do the right thing, just like he saw Paul's heart.

Kid's Story

Once upon a time, a curious squirrel named Sammy found himself in a strange forest filled with animals he had never met before. Feeling scared and alone, Sammy decided to gather all the animals together to make friends and learn about their customs.

After three days of sharing acorns and playing games, Sammy called a meeting. He stood tall and said, "Friends, even though we come from different trees and burrows, we can still be kind to one another." The animals listened intently as Sammy shared his message of acceptance and friendship.

Just like Sammy, the Apostle Paul gathered the Jewish leaders and explained that even though he was different, he hadn't done anything wrong. Both Sammy and Paul showed that understanding and kindness can bring everyone together, no matter where they come from.

Prayer Prompt

Dear God, thank you for always being with us, even in difficult times. Help us to remember that even when we face challenges, you are there to guide us and give us strength. Amen.

Discussion Questions

What do you think it means when Paul says he did nothing against his people or their customs?
Why do you think Paul wanted to talk to the Jewish leaders after being handed over to the Romans?
How do you think the Jewish leaders felt when Paul spoke to them in this way?
Do you think it is important to explain ourselves when others accuse us of something we didn't do?
How can we follow Paul's example of staying true to our beliefs even when facing challenges?

Life Application

In Acts 28:17, we see Paul explaining his situation to the Jewish leaders with honesty and respect. Similarly, children can apply this by being truthful and respectful in their interactions. When faced with misunderstandings or conflicts at home, school, or with friends, they can calmly explain their side of the story, just like Paul did. By communicating honestly and respectfully, children can help resolve issues and maintain positive relationships with others.

Craft or Activity

Let's create a "Prisoner's Chains" craft to help children understand Acts 28:17. You can use simple materials like paper strips or pipe cleaners to make chains. As you create the chains, discuss with the children why Paul was a prisoner and how he remained faithful to God even in difficult circumstances. Encourage them to think about times when they have faced challenges but trusted in God like Paul did. This hands-on activity can help reinforce the message of staying strong in faith, even when facing adversity.

Memory Verse or Rhyme

Let's chant and sing, a joyful thing,
Acts 28:17, let's bring it to gleam!
"After three days," Paul did say,
He spoke to the Jews, in a gentle way.
He told them true, with heart so kind,
"I've done no wrong, in heart or mind."
In Rome he stood, a prisoner bold,
His faith in God, a story told!

Songs or Videos

A great Christian song for kids that relates to the message of Acts 28:17 is "God's Not Dead" by the Newsboys. This song speaks about standing up for your faith and proclaiming the truth even in difficult situations, just like Paul did when he spoke to the leaders of the Jews in Acts 28.

Another song that children might enjoy is "I Will Follow" by Chris Tomlin. This song encourages us to follow Jesus no matter what challenges or obstacles we may face, just like Paul remained faithful to God's calling even when he was imprisoned and faced opposition.

These songs can help children understand and connect with the message of Acts 28:17, reminding them of the importance of standing firm in their faith and following Jesus no matter what.
