Lesson: Hebrews 11:26 (Ages 9-11)
📖 Hebrews 11:26 – Ages 9-11
Explanation
This Bible verse is talking about a man named Moses. He had to make a choice between staying in a fancy place with lots of treasures called Egypt or following God. Moses chose to follow God, even though it meant he might be treated badly by others. He thought that being with God was much more important and special than anything else in Egypt.
Imagine if you had to choose between having all the toys in the world but not being close to God, or having fewer toys but feeling God's love all around you. Moses chose to be close to God because he knew that God's love and reward were more precious than anything else.
Just like Moses, we can remember that being connected to God and doing what is right is the most valuable thing we can have. Even if other things might seem shiny and exciting, God's love and promises are the most important treasures we can ever have.
Kid's Story
Once there was a curious bunny named Benny who loved to dig for treasures in the garden. One day, Benny found a shiny coin and decided to trade it for a beautiful toy. But his wise friend, Mrs. Owl, told him a story about Moses from the Bible.
Mrs. Owl explained how Moses gave up the treasures of Egypt because he believed in God’s promises. Benny was puzzled, so Mrs. Owl asked, "What do you think is more important, the toy or a special gift from God?"
Benny thought hard and realized that the joy of God's love was more precious than any toy. He understood that following God's ways, even if others didn't understand, was a treasure worth more than gold.
From that day on, Benny knew that choosing God's love was the greatest treasure of all.
Prayer Prompt

Life Application
This Bible verse is talking about Moses, who chose to follow God even though it meant facing challenges and difficulties. Children can apply this message by remembering that following Jesus is the most important thing, even if it means they might face some struggles or be different from others. At home, they can show love, kindness, and forgiveness to their family members, even when it's hard. In school, they can stand up for what is right, even if it's not popular. With friends, they can choose to be a good influence and make choices that honor God, even if others are doing something else. By focusing on pleasing God and looking forward to the reward of heaven, they can make choices that align with their faith, even when it's not easy.
Craft or Activity
One fun activity to help children understand Hebrews 11:26 is to create a "Treasures of Egypt vs. Treasures of Heaven" board game. Divide a large piece of cardboard or poster board into two sections: one for "Treasures of Egypt" and one for "Treasures of Heaven."
In the "Treasures of Egypt" section, have the children write or draw things that represent earthly treasures like money, toys, or fame. In the "Treasures of Heaven" section, have them write or draw things that represent spiritual treasures like love, kindness, faith, and eternal life.
Next, create game cards with scenarios or questions related to choosing between earthly treasures and heavenly treasures. For each card, the child must decide which treasure they would value more based on the lesson from Hebrews 11:26.
This hands-on activity will engage the children in thinking about what truly matters in life and reinforce the message of prioritizing heavenly rewards over temporary earthly treasures.
Memory Verse or Rhyme
Think of heaven, not of gold,
Moses chose, as we're told.
Better to suffer, than to sin,
His eyes on the prize, a crown to win!
