Lesson: Hebrews 1:2 (Ages 6-8)

📖 Hebrews 1:2 – Ages 6-8

Explanation

In the Bible verse Hebrews 1:2, it says that God spoke to us through His Son, Jesus. Imagine Jesus as a special messenger who tells us all about God's love and plans for us.

God made Jesus the heir of all things, which means Jesus will inherit everything from God because He is very special and important. It's like when your parents give you something precious to keep safe because they trust you with it.

The verse also says that Jesus helped God create the universe, which is everything around us like the sky, stars, animals, and plants. Just like how you might help your parents make a delicious cake by mixing the ingredients together, Jesus helped God make our beautiful world.

So, Hebrews 1:2 is a reminder that Jesus is God's special way of showing His love to us and that He played a big part in creating everything we see around us.

Kid's Story

Once upon a time, there was a curious squirrel named Nutmeg. Nutmeg loved exploring the forest and learning new things. One day, as Nutmeg climbed a tall oak tree, he noticed a bright light shining through the leaves. Intrigued, he followed the light to a clearing where he saw a wise owl perched on a branch.

The owl told Nutmeg about a special message from God, shared through His Son, Jesus. Nutmeg listened intently as the owl explained that Jesus is like a special messenger from God, appointed to take care of everything in the world.

As Nutmeg scampered back to his tree with this new knowledge, he felt a warm sense of peace knowing that God's love and care could be seen through all of creation, just like the leaves dancing in the wind. Nutmeg remembered the owl's words whenever he saw the sunlight filtering through the branches, reminding him of God's love for all creatures, big and small.

Prayer Prompt

Dear God, thank you for speaking to us through your Son, Jesus. Help us to remember that Jesus is the heir of all things and that He created the universe. Amen.

Discussion Questions

1. Who is speaking to us in these final days according to the verse?
2. What is special about God speaking to us through His Son?
3. What does it mean that Jesus is appointed heir of all things?
4. How is Jesus connected to the creation of the universe?
5. Why do you think God chose to speak to us through His Son in these final days?

Life Application

This Bible verse teaches us that Jesus is very important because God sent Him to show us how much He loves us. Children can apply this by remembering that Jesus is always with them, so they can talk to Him through prayer whenever they need help, feel sad, or want to share their joys. They can also remember to be kind and loving to others, just like Jesus taught us, by treating their family, friends, and classmates with love and respect.

Craft or Activity

Let's create a craft that helps children understand Hebrews 1:2! You can have the children make a "Creation Wheel."

Here's how to make it:
1. Start by drawing a large circle on a piece of paper or cardstock.
2. Divide the circle into four sections. Label each section with a part of creation (e.g., sky, land, animals, people).
3. In each section, have the children draw or write a key point about how God created that part of the universe through His Son.
4. In the center of the circle, write Hebrews 1:2 or the verse itself.
5. Decorate the creation wheel with colors and stickers to make it fun and engaging.

As the children create their creation wheels, you can talk to them about how God created everything through His Son, Jesus. This hands-on activity will help reinforce the message of Hebrews 1:2 in a creative and memorable way.

Memory Verse or Rhyme

In these last days, God's Son came down,
Heir of all, with power and crown.
Through Him, the world was made so vast,
In Hebrews 1:2, this truth will last!

Songs or Videos

There is a beautiful song called "God of Wonders" by Third Day that talks about how God created the universe through His Son. Another great song is "Indescribable" by Chris Tomlin, which also reflects on the wonder of God's creation through His Son. Both of these songs are uplifting and help kids understand the majesty of God's creation through His Son, as mentioned in Hebrews 1:2.
