Lesson: Hebrews 12:27 (Ages 3-5)

📖 Hebrews 12:27 – Ages 3-5

Explanation

In this Bible verse, God is telling us that some things are not forever - like toys that break or sandcastles that wash away. But there are things that will always stay strong, like God's love for us. Just like how a big, strong tree stays standing even when the wind blows hard, God's love for us will never go away. God wants us to build our lives on things that last, like love, kindness, and helping others. These things are like the strong tree that nothing can shake. God’s love for us is the strongest thing in the whole world, and it will always be there for us, no matter what.

Kid's Story

Once upon a time, there was a little squirrel named Sammy who loved collecting acorns. Sammy built a big acorn tower in his treehouse, but one day a strong wind shook the tree, and the tower fell down. Sammy was sad, but his wise friend Owl told him about a special verse in the Bible that said sometimes things that can be shaken will fall, but what is strong and true will stay.

Sammy learned that just like his acorn tower, some things in life might shake or fall, like toys or trees, but what really matters, like love and kindness, will always stay. He decided to focus on collecting moments with his friends and helping others, knowing that those things could never be shaken away. And Sammy's heart felt happy and strong, just like the things that last forever.

Prayer Prompt

Dear God, thank You for being strong and steady, even when things around us feel shaky. Help us remember that You are always with us, holding us close. Amen.

Discussion Questions

1. What do you think "created things" means in this Bible verse?
2. Why do you think God wants to remove things that can be shaken?
3. Can you think of something that cannot be shaken? Why do you think it's important that those things remain?
4. How do you feel knowing that God is in control and will keep what cannot be shaken safe?
5. What are some things in your life that you think cannot be shaken?

Life Application

God is telling us in this verse that there are things in this world that can be shaken or changed, like toys or buildings. But there are also things that cannot be shaken, like God's love for us. Children can remember this when they face changes at home, school, or with friends. They can trust that even when things around them change, God's love and promises never change. They can find comfort in knowing that God is always with them, no matter what happens.

Craft or Activity

One fun activity to help children understand Hebrews 12:27 is to build a tower out of blocks or LEGO pieces. Start by building a tower with shaky blocks or pieces that easily fall down, representing things that can be shaken. Talk about how in life, we sometimes have things that can feel shaky or uncertain. Then, rebuild the tower with stronger, more stable blocks or pieces, symbolizing what cannot be shaken. Discuss how God is like the strong, unshakable foundation in our lives. This hands-on activity can help children grasp the idea of God's stability and strength in the midst of uncertainty.

Memory Verse or Rhyme

When things are shaking all around,
God's love and power will be found.
He keeps us safe, we're not in fear,
His love is strong, it's always near!

Songs or Videos

One great Christian song for kids that relates to the message of Hebrews 12:27 is "My Hope is Built on Nothing Less" by Edward Mote. This hymn talks about building our hope on Jesus, who is the unshakable foundation. Another wonderful song is "Cornerstone" by Hillsong Kids, which also emphasizes Jesus as our solid rock and cornerstone in times of trouble. Both songs beautifully illustrate the idea of putting our trust in God, who remains unshaken amidst the changing world around us.
