Lesson: James 1:6 (Ages 9-11)

📖 James 1:6 – Ages 9-11

Explanation

Imagine you're playing with a kite on a windy day. When you hold the kite's string tightly and confidently, the kite soars high and dances gracefully in the sky. But if you start to doubt and let go of the string, the wind will carry the kite away, and you might lose control of it.

In the Bible verse James 1:6, God is telling us that when we pray to Him, we should have strong and unwavering faith, just like holding onto the kite string tightly. When we ask God for something, we should believe in our hearts that He hears us and will answer our prayers in the best way possible.

God compares doubt to being like a wave in the sea, which is constantly pushed around by the wind. When we doubt, we waver back and forth, unsure of what to believe or where to go. But when we have strong faith, we stand firm like a sturdy lighthouse, unshaken by the storms around us.

So, when you talk to God in prayer, trust Him completely and believe that He is listening to you. Keep your faith steady and strong, like holding onto that kite string, and watch how God works wonders in your life.

Kid's Story

Once there was a curious squirrel named Sammy who loved to explore the forest. One day, he wanted to find the biggest acorn in the whole forest. He searched high and low until he saw a huge oak tree with the shiniest acorn at the very top.

Sammy knew he had to ask for help to reach it. He closed his eyes, took a deep breath, and asked the wise old owl for assistance. With a confident heart, Sammy believed the owl would help him.

The wise owl flew up, plucked the acorn, and gently placed it in Sammy's paws. Sammy learned that when we ask for help with confidence and trust, just like he did, we can overcome any challenge. Doubts can make us feel like we're being tossed around, but strong faith helps us stand firm like the oak tree.

Prayer Prompt

Dear God, thank you for your love and for always listening to our prayers. Help us to have confident faith in you, just like James 1:6 says. May we trust in you without doubting, knowing that you are always with us. Amen.

Life Application

This Bible verse from James 1:6 reminds us that when we ask God for something, we should do so with confidence and trust that He will hear our prayers. Just like a wave that is blown around by the wind, doubts can make us feel unsure and unsteady in our faith and prayers.

Children aged 9-11 can apply this verse in their daily lives by praying confidently and without doubting. They can trust that God hears their prayers and will answer them in His perfect timing. When facing challenges at home, school, or with friends, they can pray with faith, believing that God is with them and will help them through any situation.

Encourage children to talk to God regularly, sharing their joys, worries, and needs with Him. By building a strong relationship with God through prayer and faith, children can experience His peace and guidance in all areas of their lives.

Craft or Activity

Let's create a "Faith Anchor" craft to help children understand and remember James 1:6! You will need a small anchor charm, colorful beads, string, and a card with the Bible verse written on it.

1. String the colorful beads onto the string to represent different aspects of faith, such as trust, belief, and confidence.

2. Thread the anchor charm onto the string to symbolize faith as our anchor in Jesus.

3. Tie the ends of the string together to create a bracelet or necklace.

4. Attach the card with James 1:6 written on it to the Faith Anchor craft.

As children make this craft, explain to them that just like an anchor holds a ship steady in the stormy sea, our faith in Jesus keeps us steady and strong when we face doubts or challenges. Encourage them to remember the importance of asking God in confident faith, without doubting, as they wear or hold their Faith Anchor.

Memory Verse or Rhyme

When you pray, have faith, don't doubt,
Like a wave, tossed about.
Be confident in every way,
God hears you when you pray!
