Lesson: John 14:16 (Ages 3-5)
📖 John 14:16 – Ages 3-5
Explanation
In this verse, Jesus is telling his friends that he will ask God, who is like a loving Father, to send them a special helper called an Advocate. An Advocate is like a friend who stands up for you and helps you when you need it.
Imagine when you feel scared in the dark, this Advocate is like a nightlight that stays with you always, making you feel safe and loved. This special helper is always there to guide you, comfort you, and speak up for you when you need help. Just like a superhero who never leaves your side, this Advocate is there forever, watching over you with care and love.
Kid's Story
Once upon a time, there was a little squirrel named Sammy who was scared of the dark forest at night. He would shiver and hide in his tree, feeling very alone. One day, a wise owl named Olivia saw Sammy's fear and told him about a special friend who would never leave him alone.
Olivia explained that just like how Sammy's mommy and daddy always took care of him, Jesus promised to send a special friend, the Holy Spirit, to be with him forever. The Holy Spirit would always be there to help and comfort him, just like an advocate who speaks up for someone in trouble.
From that day on, Sammy remembered Jesus's promise, and whenever he felt scared in the dark forest, he would whisper a prayer for the Holy Spirit to be with him. And true to His word, Sammy felt a warm peace in his heart, knowing he was never truly alone.

Life Application
Jesus promised to send the Holy Spirit to be with us always. For young children, this means they are never alone because God is always with them, helping and guiding them. Children can apply this message by talking to God in prayer when they feel scared, sad, or need help. They can also remember that God is always there to love and support them, just like a best friend who never leaves their side. Encourage children to trust in God's presence and to seek comfort and strength from the Holy Spirit in all situations, whether at home, school, or with friends.
Craft or Activity
One fun activity you can do with young children to help them understand and remember the message of John 14:16 is to create a "Comforter Craft." You can have the children make a simple paper person and decorate it to represent the Holy Spirit, who is our Advocate and Comforter. Encourage the children to draw or write words like "Comforter," "Helper," and "Friend" on their paper person. You can also have them add colorful feathers to symbolize the Holy Spirit's presence and guidance in our lives. As they work on their craft, you can talk to them about how the Holy Spirit is always with us, helping us and comforting us, just like a friend who is always by our side. This hands-on activity can help reinforce the message of John 14:16 in a fun and memorable way for young children.
Memory Verse or Rhyme
When you feel so sad or scared,
