Lesson: John 4:21 (Ages 9-11)
📖 John 4:21 – Ages 9-11
Explanation
Children, in this Bible verse, Jesus is talking to a woman by a well. He tells her that a special time is coming when people won't have to go to a specific place like a mountain or a city to talk to God and worship Him.
Just like how you can call your parents no matter where you are, God is always close to us and ready to listen to our prayers. We can talk to God and worship Him anywhere, like in our rooms, at the park, or even in school.
Jesus wants us to know that we can connect with God from our hearts no matter where we are, and that is very special. So, remember, you can always speak to God and worship Him wherever you are because He is always with you, loving you and listening to you.
Kid's Story
Once upon a time, there was a curious squirrel named Sammy who loved to visit the big oak tree at the top of the hill to pray. One sunny day, as Sammy sat under the tree, he heard a gentle voice saying, "Sammy, a time is coming when you will worship not just under this tree, but anywhere you are."
Confused, Sammy scurried to find his wise friend, Wise Owl, who explained that just like Jesus told the woman in the Bible, we can worship God anywhere, not just in special places like churches or mountains.
Sammy realized that God is always with him, no matter where he is, and he can talk to Him and worship Him wherever he goes. From that day on, Sammy found joy in knowing that he could worship God in his heart, no matter where he was in the world.
Prayer Prompt
Dear God, thank you for teaching us through your word. Help us to remember that we can worship you anywhere and everywhere. Amen.

Life Application
In John 4:21, Jesus is teaching us that true worship is not limited to a specific place but is about our hearts being connected to God. Children can apply this message in their everyday lives by understanding that they can worship God anywhere, not just in a church building. They can talk to God, praise Him, and show love to others wherever they are.
At home, children can worship God by praying, reading the Bible, and showing love and kindness to their family members. They can thank God for their blessings and ask for His guidance in their daily activities.
In school, children can worship God by being kind to their classmates, helping others, and being honest and respectful. They can also take moments to pray silently or thank God for the knowledge and opportunities they have at school.
With friends, children can worship God by being a good example, showing love and forgiveness, and sharing about their faith when appropriate. They can pray for their friends and be a source of encouragement and support.
Overall, children can apply the message of John 4:21 by realizing that worship is not just about a physical location, but about their hearts being devoted to God in all aspects of their lives.
Craft or Activity
Let's create a "Portable Worship Station" craft to help children understand John 4:21. Provide small containers or boxes, decorating materials like markers, stickers, and paint, and small figures representing Jesus and the woman at the well. Encourage children to decorate the containers as mini worship stations. Discuss how Jesus taught that true worship isn't limited to a specific place. Children can place the figures inside the portable worship station to remember that they can worship God anywhere. This hands-on activity will help reinforce the message of worshipping God beyond physical locations.
Memory Verse or Rhyme
In John chapter four, verse twenty-one,
Jesus said worship isn't tied to one.
Not just on a mountain, not just in a town,
Anywhere you are, God's love can be found!
