Lesson: John 4:49 (Ages 3-5)
📖 John 4:49 – Ages 3-5
Explanation
In this Bible verse, a man asked Jesus to come and help his sick son. The man was worried that his son might die if Jesus didn't come quickly.
Imagine if you had a friend who was very sick and needed help. Just like how the man asked Jesus for help, we can also ask Jesus to help our friends and family when they are sick or in trouble.
Jesus cares about us and wants to help us when we are in need, just like how the man believed that Jesus could heal his son. So, we can always talk to Jesus and ask Him for help, knowing that He is always there for us and ready to help us in times of trouble.
Kid's Story
Once upon a time, there was a little bunny named Benny who loved to hop around the meadow. One day, Benny's carrot garden got ruined by a big storm, and he felt very sad. He prayed to God, asking for help.
Just then, a wise owl named Olivia heard Benny's prayers and flew down to comfort him. Olivia told Benny about the Bible verse, John 4:49, where a man asked Jesus to come and heal his son. She explained that we can always ask God for help when we are in need.
Benny felt hopeful and continued to pray. The next morning, he woke up to find his garden magically restored! Benny learned that God hears our prayers and helps us in times of trouble.

Life Application
In this verse, the official showed great faith by asking Jesus to come and heal his sick son. Children can apply this by trusting that Jesus can help them in times of need. They can pray to Jesus when they or someone they care about is sick or in trouble, believing that Jesus can help just like the official did. This verse teaches children to have faith in Jesus and ask for His help when they need it.
Craft or Activity
Let's create a simple craft to help children understand the message of John 4:49. You can make a "Helping Hands" craft using paper cutouts of hands. On each hand, write a word or phrase related to the verse, such as "Help," "Heal," "Trust," or "Believe."
As you create this craft with the children, talk about how the official in the verse asked Jesus for help because his son was very sick. Explain how the official trusted Jesus to heal his son, showing faith and belief in Jesus' power.
Encourage the children to remember the message of the verse by displaying their "Helping Hands" craft in a visible place at home. This craft can serve as a reminder to trust in Jesus and ask for His help in times of need, just like the official did.
Memory Verse or Rhyme
Here's a fun rhyme for you to learn,
About a father's love that did burn.
"Sir," he said with worry in his eyes,
"Come down before my boy dies."
Jesus heard his plea so clear,
And healed his son, no need to fear!
So remember, in Jesus' name we call,
He hears our prayers, He catches us all!

Another song is "You Are My Healer" by Don Moen, which also reflects the message of Jesus being our healer and how we can trust Him to bring healing to those in need, just like the official who asked Jesus to come and heal his son in the Bible verse you mentioned.
