Lesson: John 6:7 (Ages 3-5)

📖 John 6:7 – Ages 3-5

Explanation

In this verse, Philip is talking to Jesus about feeding a large crowd of people. He is worried because even if they had a lot of money to buy bread, it still wouldn't be enough to feed everyone. But Jesus teaches us that with His help, even a little bit can become a lot!

Think of it like this: Imagine you have one small cookie, and you want to share it with all your friends. You may think there isn't enough to go around, but with Jesus, that one cookie can magically turn into many cookies, so everyone can have some.

Just like how Jesus can do amazing things with a little bit of food, He can also do incredible things in our lives. We can trust Him to take care of us and provide for us, even when things seem impossible. Jesus' love and power are so great that He can do miracles and take care of all our needs, just like He did with the crowd that day.

Kid's Story

Once upon a time, there was a little squirrel named Sammy who loved to share his acorns with his friends. One day, Sammy found a big tree filled with delicious acorns. He thought, "I can gather so many acorns to share with all my friends!"

Sammy started collecting acorns and soon had a big pile. But as more friends gathered, he worried there wouldn't be enough for everyone. Just like Philip worried in the Bible story.

Sammy prayed and remembered that God can do amazing things. When he shared the acorns, they kept multiplying, and everyone had plenty to eat. Sammy learned that when we trust God, He can provide more than we can imagine. Just like how Jesus multiplied the bread for the hungry people.

Prayer Prompt

Dear God, thank you for providing for us every day. Help us remember that you can do amazing things with what we have, just like how you fed the crowd with only a little food. Amen.

Discussion Questions

1. Why do you think Philip was worried about not having enough bread for everyone?
2. How do you think Jesus felt when Philip said that not even a lot of money could buy enough bread?
3. What do you think Jesus wanted to show Philip and the others by feeding so many people with just a little bit of food?
4. How do you think the people felt when they saw Jesus perform this miracle with the bread and fish?
5. What can we learn from this story about trusting Jesus to provide for us even when things seem impossible?

Life Application

This verse from the Bible teaches us that even when faced with a big problem, we can trust Jesus to provide a solution. Children can apply this message in their lives by remembering that no problem is too big for God to help them with. When they face challenges at home, school, or with friends, they can pray and ask Jesus for help and have faith that He will guide them through it. Just like how Jesus multiplied the loaves and fishes to feed the crowd, He can also help children with whatever they need in their lives.

Craft or Activity

Let's make a pretend "miracle basket" craft to help children understand the story behind John 6:7. Give each child a small basket or container. Provide them with small toy food items or pictures of bread to represent the loaves that Jesus used to feed the crowd. Encourage the children to pretend they only have a little bit of food, just like Philip thought. Then, explain that with Jesus, anything is possible. Have them imagine Jesus blessing their basket, and watch as the food multiplies. This hands-on activity will help children remember the miracle of Jesus feeding the 5,000 and how He can do great things with even a little.

Memory Verse or Rhyme

Philip's math was quite a sight,
Two hundred denarii, that's right!
Even lots of bread wouldn't do,
For the crowd, too many, it's true!

Songs or Videos

A wonderful Christian song that relates to the message of John 6:7 is "Do Your Ears Hang Low?" This playful and catchy song talks about how God can do amazing things with just a little, reminding children of God's power and provision.

Another great song is "My God is So Big." This song emphasizes how our God is mighty and powerful, capable of doing great things beyond our understanding, just like how Jesus miraculously fed the 5000 with just a few loaves and fish in the story from John 6.
