Lesson: Luke 19:1 (Ages 9-11)

📖 Luke 19:1 – Ages 9-11

Explanation

One day, Jesus was traveling to a place called Jericho. As He passed through the city, many people saw Him and wanted to be near Him.

Imagine if your favorite superhero or a famous singer came to your town. You would want to see them too, right? That's how the people in Jericho felt about Jesus. They were excited to catch a glimpse of Him and maybe even talk to Him.

When Jesus passed through Jericho, it was a special moment for the people there. They didn't want to miss the chance to be close to Him and hear His teachings. Jesus always brought love, hope, and joy wherever He went, so it was a big deal for the people of Jericho to have Him visit their city.

This Bible verse reminds us that Jesus is always moving around, spreading His love and light wherever He goes. Just like the people in Jericho, we should be eager to welcome Jesus into our hearts and lives, ready to learn from Him and share His love with others.

Kid's Story

Once upon a time, a curious squirrel named Sammy lived in the bustling town of Jericho. One sunny day, Sammy saw a kind man passing through the town. Sammy watched as the man greeted everyone with a smile and a wave.

Sammy scurried up to the man and asked, "Who are you and why are you passing through Jericho?" The man replied, "I am Jesus, and I am here to show love and kindness to all."

Sammy learned an important lesson that day - just like Jesus passing through Jericho, we should always be ready to show kindness and love to others as we go about our day. Whether it's sharing a smile, lending a helping hand, or being a good friend, we can make a difference wherever we go, just like Jesus did in Jericho.

Prayer Prompt

Life Application

This verse reminds us that Jesus was always moving through different places, meeting different people, and sharing God's love wherever He went. Children can apply this message in their lives by being open to new experiences, meeting new people, and sharing kindness and love with everyone they encounter. At home, they can be welcoming to guests, help out with chores, and share God's love with their family members. In school, they can be friendly to classmates, offer help to those in need, and stand up for what is right. With friends, they can be inclusive, kind, and compassionate, just like Jesus was as He passed through Jericho.

Craft or Activity

One fun activity to help children understand and remember the message of Luke 19:1 is to create a diorama of the city of Jericho. Children can use shoeboxes or other materials to build the city, including walls, buildings, and trees. As they work on their dioramas, you can talk to them about the significance of Jericho in the Bible and why Jesus passing through the city was important. This hands-on activity can help children visualize the setting of the Bible verse and deepen their understanding of the story.

Memory Verse or Rhyme

Jesus traveled through Jericho town,
Passing through, not slowing down.
In Luke 19:1 we find,
How Jesus' journey was aligned.

Songs or Videos

A great song for kids that relates to the message of Luke 19:1 is "Zacchaeus Was a Wee Little Man." This fun and catchy song tells the story of Zacchaeus, who climbed a tree to see Jesus as he passed through Jericho. Another song that kids might enjoy is "Zacchaeus" by Cedarmont Kids, which also shares the story of Zacchaeus meeting Jesus in Jericho. Both of these songs can help children learn and remember the message of this Bible verse in a fun and engaging way.
