Lesson: Luke 23:6 (Ages 3-5)
📖 Luke 23:6 – Ages 3-5
Explanation
Pilate was a leader who needed to know more about Jesus, so he asked if Jesus was from a place called Galilee. Just like when we meet someone new and ask where they are from, Pilate wanted to learn more about Jesus.
Galilee was a special place where Jesus grew up and did many wonderful things. Pilate wanted to understand Jesus better, so he asked this question to learn more about Him.
Sometimes, when we want to know more about someone, we ask questions too. It's important to learn about others and show interest in who they are, just like Pilate did with Jesus. Jesus is always ready to tell us more about Himself if we ask Him with an open heart.
Kid's Story
Once upon a time, there was a curious little squirrel named Sammy who loved to ask questions. One day, Sammy heard his friend Bunny reading a book about a man named Pilate who asked if another man was from Galilee. Confused, Sammy asked Bunny, "Why did Pilate care if the man was from Galilee?"
Bunny explained, "Pilate wanted to know where the man was from to make a fair decision." Sammy learned that it's important to ask questions to understand things better.
Later, when Sammy found a lost acorn, he remembered the story and asked the other animals where it came from. By asking questions, Sammy discovered the acorn belonged to his friend Chipmunk. He returned the acorn to Chipmunk, feeling happy that he had learned an important lesson about being fair and honest.

Life Application
This verse teaches us that Pilate was curious about where Jesus came from. Children can apply this by being curious and asking questions about others in a kind and respectful way. They can learn more about their friends and family by asking about their interests, where they come from, or what makes them special. This shows love and interest in others, just like Pilate showed curiosity about Jesus.
Craft or Activity
One fun activity you can do with young children to help them understand and remember the message of Luke 23:6 is to create a simple map of the Holy Land. You can use a large piece of paper or cardboard and draw the different regions of Israel, including Galilee where Jesus was from.
As you explain the verse to the children, point out Galilee on the map and talk about how Jesus was a Galilean. You can also add simple drawings or stickers to represent key locations in the story of Jesus, such as Jerusalem and Nazareth.
By creating and exploring the map together, children can visualize where these events took place and better understand the significance of Jesus being a Galilean in the context of the verse. It can be a hands-on and engaging way to help them remember this part of the Bible story.
Memory Verse or Rhyme
When Pilate heard the news, he asked with a curious plea,
"Is this man a Galilean?" That's what he wanted to see!
In Luke twenty-three, verse six, this question was spun,
Remember this tale, a Galilean, he was God's own Son!
Songs or Videos
There's a fun and catchy song called "The Bible Book Bop" by Group Publishing that teaches kids about different Bible verses, including Luke 23:6. Another great song is "Jesus Loves Me" by Listener Kids, which reminds children of God's love for them, just like how Jesus, a Galilean, was loved by God.
