Lesson: Luke 24:5 (Ages 6-8)
📖 Luke 24:5 – Ages 6-8
Explanation
In this Bible verse, some women went to visit Jesus' tomb after He had died. When they got there, they saw that the tomb was empty, and two men appeared to them. The women were scared and bowed down because they didn't know what was happening.
The men asked the women, "Why are you looking for the living among the dead?" This means that Jesus is alive! He was not in the tomb because He had risen from the dead, just like how a butterfly comes out of a cocoon. It's like looking for your lost toy in the wrong place and then finding it where you least expected.
This verse teaches us that Jesus is alive, and we can find Him in our hearts and in the world around us. It reminds us that sometimes we may look for answers or happiness in the wrong places, but Jesus is always there to guide us and show us the way. Just like the women were surprised and happy to see Jesus alive, we can also feel joyful knowing that He is with us, no matter what.
Kid's Story
Once upon a time, a curious little squirrel named Sammy was searching for his acorns in the forest. One day, he saw a group of animals huddled around an old, hollow tree. Sammy scampered over and peered inside, only to find it empty.
Confused, Sammy asked the wise old owl nearby why the animals were looking for acorns in an empty tree. The owl chuckled softly and said, "Sammy, just like the women in the Bible story, you should not seek the living among the dead. The acorns are meant to be found in the trees, not in empty holes."
Sammy nodded, understanding the lesson. From that day on, he searched for his acorns in the trees and found plenty to enjoy. Just like Sammy, we should seek the living, vibrant things in life, not the empty and lifeless places.
Prayer Prompt

This Bible verse reminds us that Jesus is alive and not among the dead. Children can apply this message in their daily lives by remembering that Jesus is always with them, even when they feel scared or uncertain. When they face challenges at home, school, or with friends, they can pray to Jesus for strength and guidance. Just like the women in the verse, children can trust that Jesus is alive and will help them through any difficult situation.
Craft or Activity
One fun activity to help children understand Luke 24:5 is to create a diorama or scene depicting the empty tomb. You can use a shoebox or any small box as the base. Have the children draw or print out pictures of the women, angels, and the empty tomb scene. They can color and cut out the figures and glue them inside the box to create a 3D representation of the event. As they work on the craft, you can discuss the verse and its meaning, emphasizing the surprise and joy of finding the tomb empty and the angels' question to the women. This hands-on activity can help children visualize the story and remember the message that Jesus is alive!
Memory Verse or Rhyme
When the women saw the empty tomb,
Their faces fell in fear and gloom.
The men then asked, "Why look for Life,
Among the dead in earthly strife?"
Remember this, my little one,
Seek the Living, God's own Son.
He's not here in a darkened place,
But risen, full of love and grace.
Songs or Videos
There is a great Christian song for kids called "He's Alive" by the group Go Fish. This song tells the story of Jesus' resurrection, which is the message of Luke 24:5. Another good song is "Alive, Alive" which is a simple and catchy song that celebrates Jesus being alive after His resurrection. Both of these songs help children understand the joy and wonder of Jesus being alive again after being in the tomb.
