Lesson: Luke 8:42 (Ages 6-8)

📖 Luke 8:42 – Ages 6-8

Explanation

In this Bible verse from Luke 8:42, a worried father came to Jesus because his only daughter, who was about 12 years old, was very sick and close to dying. The father was hoping that Jesus could help his daughter get better.

Imagine if you had a special friend who was very sick, and you were very sad because you didn't want them to be sick anymore. This father felt the same way about his daughter.

When the father went to find Jesus, a lot of people were all around Him, trying to talk to Him and be close to Him. The crowd was so big that it was hard for the father to get to Jesus quickly.

But the father didn't give up. He pushed through the crowd because he believed that Jesus could help his daughter. He had faith that Jesus had the power to make her better.

This story teaches us that even when things seem hard or crowded, we can still turn to Jesus for help. We can have faith like the father did and trust that Jesus is always there for us, ready to listen and help us in our times of need. Just like the father's love for his daughter, Jesus loves us and cares for us deeply.

Kid's Story

Once upon a time, in a bustling village, there lived a girl named Lily. Lily was about twelve years old and had a beloved pet bunny named Cotton. One day, Cotton fell very ill, and Lily was filled with worry.

Lily remembered the story of a man in the Bible who had a daughter who was very sick. Just like him, she felt scared and didn't know what to do. So, she decided to take Cotton to the wise old owl in the forest for help.

The owl listened to Lily's concerns and reminded her that just like the man had faith that Jesus could heal his daughter, Lily needed to have faith that everything would be alright. Lily prayed for Cotton with all her heart, and soon enough, Cotton started to get better!

From that day on, Lily learned that having faith can bring comfort and miracles in times of trouble, just like in the Bible story.

Prayer Prompt

Dear God, thank you for loving us and caring for us, just like the father in the Bible story who was worried about his daughter. Help us to trust in you and know that you are always with us, even in difficult times. Amen.

3. Can you think of a time when you were really scared or worried like the man in the verse? How did you feel better?
4. Why do you think so many people were trying to get close to Jesus in this story?
5. What do you think this verse teaches us about how Jesus cares for people in need?

Life Application

In Luke 8:42, we learn about a father who desperately sought Jesus' help for his dying daughter. From this verse, children can understand the importance of seeking help from Jesus when they are facing difficult situations. Just like the father in the story, children can turn to Jesus in prayer when they are worried or in need.

At home, children can pray to Jesus when they are feeling scared, sad, or unsure about something. They can ask Jesus for comfort, strength, and guidance in their daily activities.

In school, children can remember to trust Jesus when they are facing challenges in their studies or relationships with classmates. They can pray for wisdom and courage to do their best and be kind to others.

With friends, children can share the love of Jesus by being a good friend and showing kindness and compassion. They can also pray for their friends when they are going through tough times and ask Jesus to help them be a source of support and encouragement.

By applying the message of Luke 8:42 in their daily lives, children can learn to rely on Jesus for help, comfort, and strength, just like the father did for his daughter in the Bible story.

Craft or Activity

We can create a craft to help children understand and remember the message of Luke 8:42. One idea is to make a "Faith Bracelet" with beads of different colors that represent different parts of the verse. For example, a blue bead can represent Jairus' daughter who was sick, a red bead can represent Jesus being pressed by the crowds, and a yellow bead can represent Jairus' faith in Jesus. As children string the beads onto a bracelet, you can discuss each part of the verse and its significance. This hands-on activity can help children engage with the verse in a meaningful and memorable way.

Memory Verse or Rhyme

In the crowd, a father came,
His heart heavy with fear and shame.
His daughter, twelve years old and frail,
Her life slipping, so pale.

Through the crowd, Jesus made His way,
Feeling the father's sorrow that day.
Remember this tale of love so true,
In Luke 8:42, the miracle grew.

Songs or Videos

One song that relates to the message of Luke 8:42 is "Healer" by Kari Jobe. This song talks about how Jesus is our healer and how we can put our trust in Him even in difficult times like the story of Jairus' daughter.

Another song that children might enjoy is "Jesus Loves Me" which is a classic Christian song that reminds us of Jesus' love and care for each one of us, just as He cared for Jairus and his daughter in the Bible verse from Luke 8:42.
