Lesson: Luke 8:47 (Ages 3-5)

📖 Luke 8:47 – Ages 3-5

Explanation

In this story from the Bible, there was a woman who had been sick for a long time. She believed that if she could just touch Jesus, she would be healed. So, when she saw that Jesus knew she had touched Him, she felt scared and worried. But instead of being mad, Jesus showed her love and kindness.

Just like the woman in the story, sometimes we feel scared or worried when we know we did something wrong. But just like Jesus, God loves us and forgives us when we are truly sorry. We can always talk to God and tell Him how we feel, just like the woman explained to Jesus why she touched Him. And just like the woman was healed, God can help us feel better and make things right again.

Kid's Story

Once upon a time, there was a little bunny named Lily who loved exploring the meadow. One day, while hopping around, she accidentally bumped into a wise old owl. Lily was so scared that she had caused a mess! The owl kindly listened as Lily explained what happened.

Just like the woman in the Bible who was healed when she touched Jesus, Lily felt better after talking to the owl. She learned that it's okay to make mistakes and that sharing the truth can help us feel better.

From that day on, Lily remembered to always be honest and brave, just like the woman who bravely shared her story with Jesus. And whenever Lily felt scared, she knew she could talk to her friends for comfort and help.

Prayer Prompt

Dear God, thank you for always being with us and for loving us so much. Help us to remember that we can always come to you, just like the woman in the Bible story. Thank you for healing us and taking care of us. Amen.

Life Application

This Bible verse teaches us about honesty and courage. Like the woman in the story, children can learn to be honest when they make a mistake or do something wrong. Instead of hiding or lying about it, they can admit their actions, just like the woman explained why she touched Jesus.

Children can also learn to have courage to speak up and share their feelings or needs with their family, teachers, or friends. Just like the woman bravely fell before Jesus, children can bravely express themselves in front of others, knowing that it's important to be honest and open about their thoughts and emotions.

Craft or Activity

Let's create a "Healing Handprint" craft to help children understand the message of Luke 8:47.

Materials needed:
- Paper
- Washable paint
- Baby wipes or wet cloths

Instructions:
1. Begin by reading the Bible verse and explaining it in simple terms for the children.
2. Ask the children to dip their hands in the washable paint and make a handprint on the paper.
3. While the paint is drying, discuss how the woman in the Bible story reached out and touched Jesus to be healed.
4. Once the handprints are dry, have the children decorate the handprint with markers or stickers to represent healing and joy.
5. Encourage the children to share their artwork and explain how they can reach out to Jesus in prayer for healing and help, just like the woman in the story did.
6. Remind the children that Jesus is always there to listen and help them when they reach out to Him in faith.

This craft will visually reinforce the message of reaching out to Jesus for healing and help, making it easier for young children to remember and understand the lesson from Luke 8:47.

Memory Verse or Rhyme

When the woman saw, she came trembling,
Fell down before Him, her heart resembling.
In front of all, she told her tale,
How Jesus' touch made her well without fail!
Remember, dear one, in Him believe,
Healing and love, He will always achieve!

Songs or Videos

One great Christian song for kids that relates to the message of Luke 8:47 is "He Knows My Name" by Tommy Walker. This song beautifully conveys the idea that Jesus sees us, knows us, and cares for us individually, just like he knew the woman in the Bible story.

Another wonderful song is "Touch the Hem of His Garment" by Sam Cooke. This song captures the faith and healing power of reaching out to Jesus, just like the woman who touched His garment in Luke 8:47. It reminds us that Jesus is always ready to help and heal us when we come to Him in faith.
