Lesson: Luke 8:8 (Ages 3-5)
📖 Luke 8:8 – Ages 3-5
Explanation
This verse from the Bible is like a story about planting seeds. Imagine you have a special bag of magical seeds. When you plant these seeds in good soil, like fluffy dirt in a garden, something amazing happens!
Just like when you plant a tiny seed and take care of it by giving it water and sunlight, it starts to grow into a beautiful flower or a yummy fruit. In this verse, Jesus is teaching us that when we listen to God's words and keep them in our hearts, it's like planting good seeds in our lives.
When we let God's words grow in our hearts like seeds in good soil, they can help us become kinder, more loving, and bring joy to others. And just like the verse says, the good seeds we plant in our hearts can grow and multiply, just like a tiny seed turning into a big, wonderful plant that gives lots of fruits.
So, when Jesus says, "Let anyone who has ears to hear, listen!" He's telling us to pay attention to His words and let them grow in our hearts, just like seeds growing into beautiful flowers or yummy fruits. Let's listen to God's words and let them make our hearts happy and full of love for others.
Kid's Story
Once upon a time, there was a little squirrel named Sammy who loved collecting acorns. One day, Sammy found a big, shiny acorn and decided to plant it in different places. He planted some acorns in hard, rocky soil, some in thorny bushes, and some in soft, fertile ground.
Sammy watered all the acorns and waited to see what would happen. The acorns in the rocky soil and thorny bushes didn't grow, but the one in the good, soft ground sprouted into a beautiful oak tree!
Sammy learned that just like the seeds, our hearts can be different too. When we listen to God's words and have good, kind hearts like the soft ground, we can grow and do amazing things, just like the oak tree that grew from the good soil. So, let's always listen and have ears to hear God's words in our hearts, just like Sammy the squirrel!

Life Application
This verse from Luke 8:8 teaches us about having a heart that is open to God's word and ready to grow in faith. Children aged 3-5 can apply this message by being like the good ground that receives the seed and produces a lot of fruit.
At home, they can listen to their parents and obey them with love, just like how we should listen to God's word and follow it. They can show kindness to their siblings and help out around the house, which will make their hearts good ground for God's love to grow.
At school, children can listen to their teachers and friends, being kind and helpful to others. They can share God's love by being a good friend and helping those in need. By doing so, they are sowing seeds of love and kindness that will grow and make a positive impact on others.
With friends, children can be a good listener, show empathy, and share God's love through their actions and words. By being a good friend and treating others with kindness, they are sowing seeds of friendship and love that will grow and bear fruit in their relationships.
In all these situations, children can remember to have ears that are open to God's word and hearts that are ready to receive His love. Just like the good ground in the parable, when they do this, they will produce a crop of love, kindness, and joy that will bless those around them.
Craft or Activity
Let's create a simple planting activity to help children understand the message of Luke 8:8. Provide each child with a small pot, soil, and seeds. Talk about how seeds need good soil to grow just like the parable in the Bible. Have the children plant their seeds in the soil and explain that just like the seed that fell on good ground in the Bible verse, we need to listen to God's Word and let it grow in our hearts. Encourage the children to take care of their plants and watch them grow, reminding them of the message that when we listen to God, good things can happen in our lives.
Memory Verse or Rhyme
Seed on good ground, grows all around,
One hundred times, a crop so fine,
Listen up, with your ears so clear,
Jesus' words, for all to hear!
Songs or Videos
One great Christian song for kids that relates to the message of Luke 8:8 is "My God is So Big" by Go Fish. This song talks about how God can do amazing things, just like the seed that grew into a big crop in the Bible verse. Another wonderful song is "This Little Light of Mine," which reminds us to let our light shine brightly for others to see, just like the good ground producing a bountiful crop. Both songs teach children about God's power and the importance of listening and responding to His word.
