Lesson: Mark 10:47 (Ages 6-8)

📖 Mark 10:47 – Ages 6-8

Explanation

In this Bible verse, a man named Bartimaeus heard that Jesus was passing by. Bartimaeus knew that Jesus could help him, so he called out to Jesus, saying, "Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!"

Just like Bartimaeus, we can talk to Jesus when we need help or when we're feeling sad. Jesus, who is the Son of God, listens to our prayers and helps us when we ask Him. He has a big, kind heart full of love and mercy.

Imagine if you were lost in a dark forest and called out for help. Jesus is like the brave hero who hears your cries and comes to rescue you. He is always ready to show us kindness and love, just like how a loving parent takes care of their child.

So, when you're feeling scared, lonely, or in need of help, remember that you can call on Jesus, just like Bartimaeus did. He is always there to listen to you and show you mercy, which means He forgives you and helps you feel better. Jesus loves you very much!

Kid's Story

Once upon a time, in a bustling town, there was a little squirrel named Sammy. Sammy loved to climb trees and play with his friends. One day, Sammy hurt his paw while climbing a tall oak tree. He felt scared and alone.

But then, he remembered a story he heard about a kind and caring friend named Jesus. Sammy knew that Jesus could help him feel better. With courage, he called out, "Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!"

Suddenly, a gentle breeze blew through the trees, and Sammy felt a warm presence around him. He heard a whisper in his heart telling him that he was not alone. Soon, his paw felt better, and Sammy knew that Jesus had heard his cry for help.

From that day on, Sammy learned that he could always call on Jesus whenever he needed help, just like in the story from the Bible.

Prayer Prompt

Dear God, thank you for Jesus, who hears our cries and has mercy on us. Help us to remember that just like the blind man in the Bible, we can call out to Jesus for help whenever we need Him. Amen.

Life Application

When we read the story of the blind man in Mark 10:47, we see that he cried out to Jesus for help. Children can apply this message in their own lives by remembering that they can always cry out to Jesus when they need help or when they are feeling sad or scared. Just like the blind man, they can talk to Jesus in prayer and ask Him for mercy and help in any situation.

At home, children can pray to Jesus when they are feeling upset or when they need help with something. They can ask Him to give them strength and comfort in difficult times. In school, children can remember to turn to Jesus when they are struggling with their studies or when they are having a tough day. They can ask Him for wisdom and guidance to help them through challenges.

With friends, children can also apply the message of Mark 10:47 by showing kindness and compassion to others, just as Jesus showed mercy to the blind man. They can be a friend who listens and helps when someone is in need, just like Jesus did for the blind man. By remembering to call on Jesus for help and showing love to others, children can live out the message of Mark 10:47 in their everyday lives.

Craft or Activity

One fun craft activity to help children understand and remember the message of Mark 10:47 could be creating a "Mercy Jar."

Start by decorating a jar with colorful markers or stickers. Then, provide slips of paper and ask the children to write or draw things they would like Jesus to have mercy on in their lives. It could be a mistake they made, a fear they have, or a wish for help with something difficult.

After everyone has written on their slips of paper, have the children fold them up and place them inside the Mercy Jar. Encourage them to pray together, asking Jesus for mercy on the things they wrote down.

This hands-on activity can help children understand the concept of asking Jesus for mercy and the importance of calling on Him for help in times of need.

Memory Verse or Rhyme

When you're in need, just like Bartimaeus,
Call out to Jesus, He will never fail us!
"Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!"
He hears our prayers and sets our hearts free!
