Lesson: Mark 16:20 (Ages 9-11)

📖 Mark 16:20 – Ages 9-11

Explanation

In this verse from the Bible, Mark 16:20, it tells us about something wonderful that happened after Jesus rose from the dead and appeared to His disciples. It says that the disciples, the friends of Jesus, went out and told others about Jesus and His love everywhere they went.

Imagine you have a favorite story or toy that you just can't wait to share with your friends because you love it so much. That's how the disciples felt about Jesus – they were so excited about Him that they wanted everyone to know how amazing He is!

And you know what? The verse also says that as the disciples went out and shared about Jesus, the Lord (God) was right there with them, helping them and showing that what they were saying about Jesus was true. It's like having a superhero by your side, giving you the courage and strength to do something important.

When we share about Jesus and His love with others, we are like those disciples. And just like them, we can trust that God is with us, guiding us and showing His power through us. So, let's go out and share the love of Jesus with others, knowing that God is right there with us every step of the way!

Kid's Story

Once there was a young girl named Lily who loved to share stories about Jesus with her friends at school. One day, her friends were curious and wanted to see some amazing things happen like in the Bible. Lily said, "Let's pray and ask Jesus to show us a sign that He is with us!"

That afternoon, they all went to the park to play. As they sat on a bench, a squirrel came up to them, looking hungry and sad. Lily remembered how Jesus cared for everyone, so she shared her snack with the squirrel. Suddenly, the squirrel started doing little tricks, like flips and spins, making Lily and her friends laugh and clap with joy.

Lily realized that by sharing Jesus' love and kindness, they were doing God's work, just like in the Bible. They knew that Jesus was with them, confirming their message through the happy squirrel's playful signs.

Prayer Prompt

Dear God, thank You for being with us as we share Your message with others. Help us to remember that You are always with us, working alongside us. May we see Your signs of love and power as we share Your Word. In Jesus' name, amen.

Discussion Questions

1. What do you think it means for the Lord to work with us as we share His message with others?
2. How do you think the signs that accompanied the disciples' preaching helped people believe in the message of Jesus?
3. Can you think of a time when you shared something about Jesus with someone else? How did it feel?
4. Why do you think it is important for us to share the message of Jesus with others?
5. How can we see the Lord working with us in our own lives as we tell others about Jesus?

Life Application

This Bible verse teaches us that when we share the good news about Jesus with others, God is with us and helps us. Children aged 9-11 can apply this message in their real life by talking to their family and friends about Jesus in a kind and loving way. They can share stories from the Bible or talk about how Jesus has helped them in their lives. When they do this, they can trust that God is working with them, just like he did with the disciples in the Bible. Children can also show God's love through their actions by being kind, helpful, and caring towards others at home, school, and with their friends. This way, they can be like little messengers of God's love wherever they go.

Craft or Activity

Let's create a "Faith Walk" activity to help children understand Mark 16:20! Set up a small obstacle course or path with different stations representing places where the disciples preached. At each station, have a sign with a symbol of a miracle or sign that Jesus performed to confirm their message, such as a loaf of bread for feeding the 5,000 or a fish for the miraculous catch. As the children move through the course, they can reflect on how the Lord worked with the disciples and confirmed their message through these signs. This hands-on activity can help them visualize the journey of the disciples and the power of Jesus working alongside them.

Memory Verse or Rhyme

When they went out to preach the Word,
The Lord's power was clearly heard.
Signs and wonders, He did show,
Confirming the message they did sow.
So spread His love both near and far,
Knowing He's with you, wherever you are!

Songs or Videos

One Christian song that relates to the message of Mark 16:20 is "Go Tell It on the Mountain." This song encourages spreading the good news of Jesus just as the disciples did in the Bible. Another great song is "This Little Light of Mine," which reminds children to let their light shine for Jesus as they share His message with others. Both songs are fun and engaging ways to reinforce the importance of sharing the Gospel.
