Lesson: Mark 6:14 (Ages 6-8)

📖 Mark 6:14 – Ages 6-8

Explanation

In this verse, King Herod heard about Jesus because many people were talking about Him. Some people thought that Jesus was actually John the Baptizer who had come back to life. They believed this because they saw the amazing things Jesus was doing, like miracles.

Think of it like this: Imagine if you had a friend who went away for a long time, and then suddenly, someone who looked like your friend but even more amazing started doing incredible things. You might think, "Wow, maybe that's my friend come back to life!"

Just like how people in the Bible were amazed by Jesus and thought He was someone else, we can also be amazed by Jesus and His wonderful works. It's important to remember that Jesus is very special and can do things that no one else can do, because He is the Son of God.

Kid's Story

Once upon a time in a land of rolling hills and chirping birds, a curious rabbit named Rosie hopped around the forest. One sunny day, she overheard the other animals chattering about a mysterious magician who could make flowers bloom instantly.

Excited, Rosie asked, "Who is this magician everyone's talking about?" The wise owl, perched in a tree, replied, "It's not a magician, Rosie. It's Jesus, the Son of God, who performs miracles with love and kindness."

Intrigued, Rosie hopped to the meadow where she saw Jesus healing a sick bird with a gentle touch. She understood that Jesus' miracles came from His compassionate heart, not magic tricks. Just like the rumors about John the Baptizer, Jesus' name spread far and wide because of His miraculous deeds and His love for all creatures.

Prayer Prompt

Dear God, thank you for Jesus and the miracles He did. Help us to remember that Jesus is powerful and special, just like how people thought John the Baptizer had come back to life. Amen.

Life Application

In Mark 6:14, we learn that King Herod heard about Jesus and the miraculous powers at work in Him. For children aged 6-8, this verse can teach them that Jesus is powerful and His name is well-known because of the miracles He performed. Children can apply this message in their daily lives by remembering that Jesus is always with them, watching over them, and ready to help them whenever they need Him. They can talk to Jesus in prayer, asking for His help and guidance in their everyday activities at home, school, or with friends. Just like Jesus performed miracles in the Bible, children can trust that Jesus can work miracles in their lives too, by helping them in difficult situations, comforting them when they are sad, and guiding them to make good choices. By remembering the power and presence of Jesus in their lives, children can find comfort, strength, and joy in knowing that they are never alone.

Craft or Activity

One fun activity to help children understand Mark 6:14 is to create a simple "Miracle Powers" craft. Provide children with materials to design their own superhero cape or wristband. Encourage them to write "Miracle Powers" on their capes or bands. As they create, discuss how Jesus performed miracles because He is God's Son and has special powers to show His love and help others. This hands-on activity can help children remember that Jesus had miraculous powers and that He is truly special.

Memory Verse or Rhyme

When King Herod heard the news so grand,
Jesus' fame spread throughout the land.
Some thought John had risen, that's what they said,
Miracles through Jesus, filling hearts with dread.

Songs or Videos

One great Christian song for kids that relates to the message of Mark 6:14 is "My God is So Big" by Go Fish. This song reminds us of the miraculous powers of God and how He is greater than anything we can imagine.

Another wonderful song is "God's Not Dead" by Newsboys. This song emphasizes the power of God and how He is alive and at work in our lives, just like the miraculous powers that were at work in Jesus during his time on earth. It reminds us that God is always present and active in our world.
