Lesson: Matthew 25:5 (Ages 3-5)

📖 Matthew 25:5 – Ages 3-5

Explanation

One day, Jesus told a story about ten friends who were waiting for their friend, the bridegroom, to come to a special party. They all brought their lamps to light the way for him. But the bridegroom took longer than they expected, so they all got very tired and fell asleep.

Just like the friends in the story, sometimes we have to wait for things to happen, and it can make us feel sleepy or tired. But we should always be ready and patient, just like the friends with their lamps, so when the special moment comes, we can shine brightly and be a light for others.

So, let's remember to be patient and ready for whatever God has planned for us, even if it feels like we have to wait a long time. God's timing is always perfect, and when the time is right, we will be ready to shine like bright lights for Him!

Kid's Story

Once upon a time, there was a little bunny named Benny who was waiting for his friends to come over for a fun party. Benny was so excited that he kept looking out the window to see if they were coming. As the sun started to set, Benny became sleepy and decided to take a quick nap.

But as he slept, his friends arrived quietly and saw Benny fast asleep. They didn't want to wake him up, so they went home feeling sad that they missed the party. When Benny woke up, he was surprised to find no one there. He felt sad and realized he should have stayed awake to welcome his friends.

Just like Benny, in the Bible verse, we should always be ready and not fall asleep when we are waiting for something special to happen.

Prayer Prompt

Dear God, thank you for always being with us, even when we are waiting. Help us to be patient and ready for when you come. Amen.

Discussion Questions

Life Application

In Matthew 25:5, the bridesmaids became drowsy and fell asleep while waiting for the bridegroom. For young children, this verse can teach them about being patient and prepared. Kids can apply this by being patient when waiting for something exciting, like a birthday party or a special event. They can also learn to be prepared by getting ready for school each day or helping to clean up their toys before bedtime. Just like the bridesmaids in the story, it's important for children to be patient and ready for whatever comes their way.

Craft or Activity

One fun activity to help young children understand and remember the message of Matthew 25:5 is to have a pretend wedding ceremony. You can dress up as the bridegroom and invite the children to be the bridesmaids. Before starting the ceremony, talk about how the bridesmaids in the story fell asleep while waiting for the bridegroom. Then, have the children pretend to fall asleep by lying down with their eyes closed. This hands-on activity can help them visualize and remember the message of being prepared and staying awake for Jesus.

Memory Verse or Rhyme

When the bridegroom's late, we have to wait,
But don't fall asleep, don't hesitate,
Stay awake and ready, for Him we'll keep,
When He arrives, we won't be asleep!

Songs or Videos

One Christian song that relates to the message of Matthew 25:5 is "Keep Watch" by Seeds Family Worship. This song talks about being ready and watching for Jesus to come back. Another great song is "Wake Up" by Go Fish, which also emphasizes being alert and prepared for the return of Jesus, just like in the parable of the ten virgins. Both songs can help kids understand the importance of staying spiritually awake and ready for Jesus’ return.
