Lesson: Matthew 27:7 (Ages 3-5)

📖 Matthew 27:7 – Ages 3-5

Explanation

In this verse from the Bible, some people came together and decided to use money to buy a special field. This field was a place where people who were not from that town could be buried when they passed away. It was like a big garden where they could rest peacefully.

Just like when we have a special place in our homes for our toys or books, this field was a special place for people who needed a peaceful resting spot. It was a kind and loving gesture to make sure everyone had a place to be taken care of, even after they were no longer with us.

It's important to remember that showing kindness and taking care of others, even in small ways like making sure they have a place to rest, is a way to follow God's teachings and spread love in the world.

Kid's Story

Once upon a time, a little bunny named Benny found a lost coin in the forest. He was very excited and didn’t know what to do with it. Benny decided to ask his friends, the wise owl and the playful squirrel, for advice.

The owl and the squirrel told Benny about a kind man named Jesus from a special book called the Bible. They explained how Jesus’ friends used money to buy a field to help others who didn’t have a place to be buried. Benny thought about the lost coin and how it could be used to help someone in need.

Feeling happy, Benny decided to use the coin to buy flowers for a lonely old turtle who lived all by himself. The turtle was so grateful and told Benny that he would always remember to help others too. And from that day on, Benny learned the importance of kindness and sharing, just like Jesus and his friends did in the Bible.

Prayer Prompt

Dear God, thank you for providing a place for everyone, even strangers, to be taken care of. Help us to always show kindness and love to others, just like how You care for us. Amen.

Discussion Questions

1. Why do you think the people used the money to buy a field for foreigners?
2. How do you think the foreigners felt about having a special place for burial?
3. Do you think it is important to show kindness and care for others, even after they have died? Why?
4. How can we help others feel loved and respected, just like the people did by buying the field for the foreigners?
5. What are some ways we can show kindness and generosity to those who may be different from us, like the foreigners in the Bible verse?

Life Application

This verse teaches us about the importance of using money for good purposes. Children can apply this message in their own lives by being generous with their toys or snacks, sharing with others in need, and helping to make their home, school, or community a better place. They can learn to think about how they can use what they have to help others and show kindness and love just like Jesus did.

Craft or Activity

Let's create a simple craft to help children understand this verse from Matthew 27:7. You can make a small potter's field using playdough or modeling clay. Encourage the children to roll out the clay and shape it into a field. Then, they can use small plastic figures or toys to represent the foreigners being buried in the potter's field. As they play and create, you can talk to them about the importance of caring for others and showing kindness, just like how the money was used to buy the potter's field for the foreigners. This hands-on activity will help them remember the message of this verse in a fun and engaging way.

Memory Verse or Rhyme

In Matthew 27:7, we see how they spent the money,
Buying a field for strangers, oh, isn't that funny?
The potter's field became a resting place so grand,
A burial spot for all, in a faraway land.

Songs or Videos

There are many Christian songs and videos for kids that relate to the themes of generosity, compassion, and honoring the memory of others, which are found in Matthew 27:7. One song that comes to mind is "Do Everything" by Steven Curtis Chapman, which encourages kids to do everything for the glory of God and to show love and kindness to others. Another song is "Your Love Never Fails" by Newsboys, which reminds kids that God's love is constant and unchanging, even in difficult times. Both of these songs can help reinforce the message of Matthew 27:7 in a joyful and engaging way for children.
