Lesson: Matthew 7:8 (Ages 6-8)
📖 Matthew 7:8 – Ages 6-8
Explanation
God loves when we talk to Him, just like when we talk to a good friend. In this verse, Jesus is telling us that when we ask God for something, He listens and answers us. It's like when you ask your parents for a new toy, and if it's something good for you, they might give it to you.
When we are searching for something, like looking for your favorite toy in your messy room, if you keep looking, you will find it. Jesus wants us to know that when we seek Him and His love, we will find it. And when we knock on a door, someone usually opens it for us. Similarly, when we come to God and knock, He will open the door to us and welcome us with His love and blessings.
So, remember, when you talk to God, search for Him with your heart, and knock on His door with your prayers, He will always be there for you, listening and ready to help you. God is like the best friend you can always count on!
Kid's Story
Once upon a time, there was a little squirrel named Sammy. Sammy loved collecting acorns for the winter, but one day he couldn't find any in his usual spots. Feeling worried, Sammy decided to ask the wise old owl for help.
The owl told Sammy about a secret place deep in the forest where the biggest and tastiest acorns grew. Excited, Sammy set off on an adventure to find this special place. He asked the birds for directions, he searched high and low, and he even knocked on hollow trees to see if anyone knew the way.
After a long journey, Sammy finally found the secret spot full of delicious acorns! He learned that by asking, seeking, and knocking, he was able to find exactly what he needed. Just like Sammy, when we ask God for help, search for His guidance, and knock on His door, He will always be there for us.
Prayer Prompt
Dear God, thank you for always listening to our prayers. Help us to remember that when we ask, we will receive, when we seek, we will find, and when we knock, the door will be opened. Amen.

Life Application
This Bible verse is telling us that when we ask God for something, seek His help, or knock on the door of His heart, He will listen and answer us.
Children can apply this message by talking to God in prayer. They can ask Him for help with things they need or want, like doing well on a test, making new friends, or being kind to others. They can also seek God's wisdom by reading the Bible and asking Him to guide them in making good choices.
When facing challenges at home, school, or with friends, children can remember that God is always there for them. They can trust that when they ask Him for help, seek His guidance, or knock on the door of His heart, He will be there to listen and answer in His own loving way.
Craft or Activity
Let's create a "Seek and Find" activity to help children understand and remember the message of Matthew 7:8. Provide the children with small cards or pieces of paper with different symbols or pictures representing things we can ask God for, seek in our lives, or knock on doors of opportunity. For example, a heart for love, a book for wisdom, a house for a safe home, etc.
Hide these cards around the room or outdoor area. Encourage the children to actively search for these cards, just like how we seek things in our lives. As they find each card, discuss what it represents and how it relates to asking, seeking, and knocking in prayer.
Through this hands-on activity, children can visually and kinesthetically experience the lesson of Matthew 7:8 and understand that when we ask God for something, seek His will, or knock on the doors of opportunity, He will answer us.
Memory Verse or Rhyme
When we ask, we will receive,
Seeking helps us find, believe.
Knock and trust, with hearts open wide,
God's love and blessings will abide!
Songs or Videos
One great song that relates to Matthew 7:8 is "Ask, Seek, Knock" by Hillsong Kids. This song reinforces the message that if we ask, seek, and knock, God will answer us. Another wonderful song is "Seek Ye First" which is based on Matthew 6:33 but also carries the same message of seeking God and His kingdom. Both songs are uplifting and remind children of the importance of seeking God in prayer and faith.
