2 peter 3 (NMV)
1 Beloved, this is now the second letter I have written to you. In both of them, I aim to stir up your sincere mind by way of reminder,
2 so that you will remember the words spoken beforehand by the holy prophets and the command of our Lord and Savior through your apostles.
3 Know this first: In the last days, mockers will come with their mocking, following their own desires,
4 and saying, "Where is the promise of His coming? Ever since our ancestors died, everything continues as it has from the beginning of creation."
5 For they deliberately overlook this fact: that long ago, by the word of God, the heavens existed, and the earth was formed out of water and through water.
6 Through these, the world at that time was destroyed when it was flooded with water.
7 But by the same word, the present heavens and earth are being reserved for fire, kept for the day of judgment and destruction of the ungodly.
8 But do not overlook this one fact, beloved: With the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like one day.
9 The Lord is not slow in keeping His promise, as some understand slowness. Instead, He is being patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish but for all to turn from your former ways.
10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar, the elements will be destroyed by burning, and the earth and its works will be laid bare.
11 Since all these things are going to be destroyed in this way, what kind of people should you be? You ought to live in holiness and reverence toward God,
12 as you look forward to and eagerly await the coming of the day of God. Because of it, the heavens will be set ablaze and dissolved, and the elements will melt with intense heat.
13 But according to His promise, we are looking forward to new heavens and a new earth, where righteousness dwells.
14 Therefore, beloved, while you are waiting for these things, make every effort to be found by Him in peace, spotless and blameless.
15 And consider the patience of our Lord as salvation; just as our beloved brother Paul also wrote to you, according to the wisdom given to him.
16 He speaks about these things in all his letters. There are some things in them that are hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist, as they do the rest of the Scriptures, to their own destruction.
17 Therefore, beloved, since you already know this in advance, be on guard so that you are not carried away by the error of lawless people and fall from your secure position.
18 But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory both now and forever. Amen.
