2 peter 1 (NMV)
1 From Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to those who have received a faith equal in value to ours, by the righteousness of our God and Deliverer, Jesus Christ.
2 May grace and peace be multiplied to you through the full, accurate knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.
3 His divine power has granted to us everything we need for life and for a life of reverence toward God, through the full knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence.
4 Through these, He has given us incredibly valuable and exceedingly great promises, so that through them you may share in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire.
5 And for this very reason, make every effort to richly supply your faith with moral excellence, and supply your moral excellence with knowledge;
6 and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, endurance; and to endurance, a life of reverence toward God;
7 and to life of reverence toward God, brotherly affection; and to brotherly affection, love.
8 For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they will keep you from being ineffective or unfruitful in the full knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
9 But the one who lacks these things is blind, short-sighted, having forgotten that they were purified from their former sins.
10 Therefore, brothers and sisters, be all the more diligent to make certain about your calling and choosing, for if you do these things, you will never stumble.
11 For in this way, entry into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Deliverer, Jesus Christ, will be richly provided to you.
12 Therefore I intend to always remind you about these things, even though you already know them and are established in the truth that you now have.
13 I think it is right, as long as I am in this earthly tent [metaphor for temporary body], to stir you up by reminding you,
14 because I know that the laying aside of my earthly tent is soon, just as our Lord Jesus Christ has made clear to me.
15 And I will make every effort so that after my departure [death], you will always be able to remember these things.
16 For we did not follow cleverly invented stories when we made known to you the power and coming of our Master Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of His majestic greatness.
17 For He received honor and glory from God the Father when the voice came to Him from the majestic glory: "This is My beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased."
18 We ourselves heard this voice come from heaven when we were with Him on the holy mountain.
19 And we have the prophetic word even more fully confirmed, which you do well to pay attention to as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts.
20 Above all, understand this: No prophecy of Scripture comes from someone's own interpretation.
21 For no prophecy ever came by human will, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.
