john 3 (NMV)

Chapters: 1 2 3 4 5

Look at how great a love the Father has given us, that we should be called children of God, and we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know Him.

Beloved, we are now children of God, and what we will be has not yet been revealed. But we know that when He is revealed, we will be like Him, because we will see Him as He is.

And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies themselves, just as He is pure.

Everyone who practices sin also practices lawlessness, and sin is lawlessness.

And you know that He was revealed to take away sins, and in Him there is no sin.

No one who remains in Him keeps on sinning. No one who keeps on sinning has seen Him or known Him.

Children, don't let anyone deceive you: the one who practices righteousness is righteous, just as He is righteous.

The one who practices sin is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The Son of God was revealed for this purpose, to undo the works of the devil.

No one who has been born of God keeps on practicing sin, because His seed remains in him; he is not able to keep sinning, because he has been born of God.

This is how God's children and the devil's children are made obvious: everyone who does not practice righteousness is not from God, and neither is the one who does not love their brother or sister.

For this is the message you have heard from the beginning: that we should love one another.

Not like Cain, who was from the evil one and slayed his brother. And why did he slay him? Because his own works were evil, and his brother's were righteous.

Don't be surprised, brothers and sisters, if the world hates you.

We know that we have passed from death to life because we love our brothers and sisters. The one who does not love remains in death.

Everyone who hates his brother or sister is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life remaining in him.

This is how we have come to know love: He laid down His life for us. We also ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters.

If someone has the means to sustain life in this world and sees his brother or sister in need but shuts off his compassion from them, how does God's love remain in him?

Little children, let us not love with words or speech, but with actions and truth.

This is how we will know that we belong to the truth and will reassure our hearts before Him.

Even if our hearts find fault with us, God is greater than our hearts, and He knows everything.

Beloved, if our hearts do not find fault with us, we have confidence before God.

And whatever we ask, we receive from Him, because we keep His commands and do what pleases Him.

Now this is His command: that we believe in the name of His Son Jesus Christ and love one another, just as He commanded us.

The one who keeps His commands remains in Him, and He in them. And this is how we know that He remains in us: by the Spirit He has given us.
