2 thessalonians 2 (NMV)
1 Now concerning the arrival of our Lord Jesus Christ and our being gathered to Him, we urge you, brothers and sisters,
2 not to be quickly shaken or unsettled in your thinking, or alarmed either by a spirit, or a message, or a letter appearing to come from us, claiming that the day of the Lord has already come.
3 Let no one deceive you in any way. For that day will not come unless the falling away [a spiritual departure from the truth] comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the one destined for destruction.
4 He opposes and exalts himself above every so-called god or object of worship, so that he even sits in the temple of God, proclaiming himself to be God.
5 Do you not remember that when I was still with you I told you these things?
6 And you know what is now restraining him, so that he may be revealed at the proper time.
7 For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only the one who now restrains it will continue to do so until he is taken out of the way.
8 Then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus will slay with the breath of His mouth and bring to nothing by the radiant unveiling of His return.
9 The coming of the lawless one is by the activity of Satan with all kinds of power and false signs and wonders,
10 and with every unrighteous deception directed at those who are perishing, because they did not receive the love of the truth that would have saved them.
11 For this reason, God sends them a powerful delusion so that they will believe the lie,
12 in order that all may be judged who did not believe the truth but delighted in unrighteousness.
13 But we ought always to thank God for you, brothers and sisters beloved by the Lord, because God chose you from the beginning for salvation through sanctification [being made holy] by the Spirit and belief in the truth.
14 To this He called you through our good message, so that you may obtain the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.
15 So then, brothers and sisters, stand firm and hold fast to the traditions you were taught, whether by our spoken word or by our letter.
16 Now may our Lord Jesus Christ Himself, and God our Father, who loved us and through grace gave us eternal comfort and good hope,
17 encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good deed and word.
