Titus 1 (NMV)

Chapters: 1 2 3

Paul, a servant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ, for the faith of God's chosen ones and the knowledge of the truth that is in accordance with godliness,

in the confident expectation of eternal life, which God, who is always truthful, promised before the ages began.

At the proper time, He revealed His word through the proclamation entrusted to me by the command of God our Savior.

To Titus, my true child in our shared faith: Grace and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Savior.

For this reason I left you in Crete, so that you would set in order what remained to be done and appoint elders in every town, just as I directed you.

An elder must be free from legal accusation, the husband of one wife, with faithful children who are not accused of a lifestyle abandoned to ruin or defiance.

For an overseer, as one entrusted with God's work, must be free from legal accusation, not arrogant, not quick-tempered, not given to wine, not aggressive or abusive, not driven by shameful profit,

but hospitable, loving what is good, self-controlled, aligned with what is just before God, holy, and disciplined.

He must hold firmly to the trustworthy message as it has been taught, so that he may be able both to encourage others with uncorrupted teaching and to refute those who oppose it.

For there are many rebellious people, empty talkers and deceivers, especially those who insist that circumcision is required for salvation.

They must be silenced, because they are overthrowing whole households by teaching what they should not, for the sake of shameful gain.

One of their own prophets has said, "Cretans are always liars, evil beasts, lazy gluttons."

This testimony is true. For this reason, correct them sharply, exposing their error with the truth, so that they may be sound in the faith.

not paying attention to Jewish myths and the commands of people who turn away from the truth.

To the pure, all things are pure; but to those who are defiled and unbelieving, nothing is pure. In fact, both their minds and consciences are defiled.

They claim to know God, but by their actions they deny Him. They are detestable, disobedient, and disqualified from any good work.
