peter 4 (NMV)
Therefore, since Christ suffered in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same mindset, because anyone who has suffered in the flesh has made a break from sin.
so that they may no longer live the rest of their time in the flesh for human desires, but for the will of God.
For you have already spent enough time doing what the Gentiles [non-Jews] choose to do, living in unrestrained immorality, lusts, drunkenness, wild parties, drinking bouts, and lawless idol worship.
They are surprised that you don't join them in the same flood of reckless behavior, and they insult you.
But they will give an account to the One who is ready to judge the living and the dead.
For this reason the good news was also preached to those who are now dead, so that although they might be judged in the flesh like humans, they might live in the spirit as God does.
The end of all things is near; therefore, be clear-minded and self-controlled for the sake of your prayers.
Above all, keep loving one another deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.
Be hospitable to one another without complaining.
Just as each of you has received a gift, use it to serve one another as good stewards of God's varied grace.
If anyone speaks, let it be as one speaking the words of God. If anyone serves, let it be from the strength that God supplies, so that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. To Him belong the glory and the power forever and ever. Amen.
Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal that has come among you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you.
Instead, rejoice as you share in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may also rejoice and be glad when His glory is revealed.
If you are insulted for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you.
Let none of you suffer as a murderer, a thief, an evildoer, or a meddler in other people's affairs.
But if anyone suffers as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but let him glorify God in that name.
For it is time for judgment to begin with the household of God. And if it begins with us, what will be the outcome for those who refuse to obey the good news of God?
And "If the righteous are barely saved, what will become of the ungodly and the sinner?"
So then, let those who suffer according to God's will entrust their souls to a faithful Creator while doing what is good.
