peter 1 (NMV)
Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to those who are chosen; strangers scattered throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia,
chosen according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, by being set apart by the Spirit, for obedience to Jesus Christ and for being sprinkled with His blood: May grace and peace be multiplied to you.
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to His great mercy, He has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,
into an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading; kept in heaven for you.
You are being guarded by the power of God through faith for a salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time.
In this you rejoice greatly, even though now for a little while, if necessary, you are grieved by various trials,
so that the tested genuineness of your faith, more valuable than gold that perishes even though refined by fire, may be found to result in praise, glory, and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed.
Though you have not seen Him, you love Him. And though you do not now see Him, you believe in Him and rejoice with an indescribable and glorious joy,
because you are receiving the outcome of your faith; the salvation of your souls.
Concerning this salvation, the prophets who spoke about the grace that was to come to you diligently searched and inquired carefully,
trying to discover what time or circumstances the Spirit of Christ within them was indicating when He testified beforehand about the sufferings of Christ and the glories that would follow.
It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves, but you, in these things that have now been announced to you through those who preached the good news to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven, things even angels long to look into.
Therefore, prepare your minds for action, be sober-minded, and set your confident expectation fully on the grace to be brought to you at the revealing of Jesus Christ.
As obedient children, do not be shaped by the desires you had when you lived in ignorance.
But just as the One who called you is holy, you also must be holy in all your conduct,
for it is written: "You shall be holy, because I am holy."
And if you call on the Father who judges each person's work impartially, live the time of your exile here with reverent fear.
For you know that you were redeemed from your empty way of life handed down from your ancestors, not with perishable things like silver or gold,
but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without blemish or defect.
He was chosen before the foundation of the world but was revealed in these last times for your sake.
Through Him you believe in God, who raised Him from the dead and gave Him glory, so that your faith and confident expectations are in God.
Now that you have purified your souls by obeying the truth, leading to sincere brotherly love, love one another deeply from a pure heart.
For you have been born again, not from perishable seed, but imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God.
For "All flesh is like grass, and all its glory like the flower of the grass. The grass withers and the flower falls,
but the word of the Lord endures forever."And this word is the good news that was preached to you.
