Revelation 18 (NMV)
After this I saw another angel coming down from heaven, with great authority. The earth was illuminated by his splendor.
He called out in a powerful voice: "Fallen, fallen is Babylon the great! She has become a dwelling place for demons, a prison for every unclean spirit, a cage for every unclean and detestable bird.
For all the nations have drunk the wine of her passionate immorality, the kings of the earth committed sexual immorality with her, and the merchants of the earth have grown rich from her excessive luxury."
Then I heard another voice from heaven: "Come out of her, My people, so that you will not share in her sins or receive any of her plagues.
For her sins are piled up to heaven, and God has remembered her crimes.
Pay her back the same way she paid out; give her double for what she has done. Pour out a double portion for her in the cup she mixed.
Give her as much torment and sorrow as the glory and luxury she gave herself. For she says in her heart, 'I sit as queen; I am not a widow, and I will never see grief.'
Because of this, her plagues will come in a single day, death, sorrow, and famine. She will be consumed by fire, because the Lord God who judges her is powerful.
The kings of the earth who committed sexual immorality and shared her luxury will weep and mourn over her when they see the smoke from her burning.
They will stand at a distance, terrified by her torment, and say: "Woe, woe, the great city, Babylon, the mighty city! For in a single hour your judgment has come."
The merchants of the earth will weep and mourn over her, because no one buys their cargo anymore,
cargo of gold, silver, precious stones and pearls; fine linen, purple, silk, and scarlet fabric; all kinds of scented wood, ivory goods, and articles made of expensive wood, bronze, iron, and marble;
cinnamon, spices, incense, myrrh and frankincense, wine, olive oil, fine flour and wheat; cattle and sheep, horses and carriages, and human beings sold as slaves.
They will say, "The fruit your soul longed for has left you. All your luxury and splendor have vanished, never to be found again."
The merchants who became rich from her will stand far off, terrified by her torment. They will weep and mourn,
saying, "Woe, woe, the great city, clothed in fine linen, purple and scarlet, and glittering with gold, precious stones, and pearls,
for in a single hour such great wealth has been destroyed!" Every ship captain, every seafarer and sailor, and all who earn their living from the sea stood far off.
When they saw the smoke from her burning, they cried out, "Who is like the great city?"
They threw dust on their heads [a sign of deep mourning and despair] and cried out in weeping and mourning: "Woe, woe, the great city, where all who had ships on the sea became rich from her wealth, for in a single hour she has been destroyed!"
Rejoice over her, O heaven, and you saints, apostles, and prophets, because God has judged her for the way she treated you.
Then a mighty angel picked up a stone like a large millstone and threw it into the sea, saying: "In this way, Babylon the great city will be thrown down violently and never be found again.
The sound of harpists, musicians, flutists, and trumpeters will never be heard in you again. No craftsman of any trade will ever be found in you again. The sound of a mill will never be heard in you again.
The light of a lamp will never shine in you again. The voice of a groom and bride will never be heard in you again. For your merchants were the great ones of the earth, and all the nations were deceived by your sorcery.
In her was found the blood of prophets and believers, and of all who were slaughtered on the earth."
